Palps after eating
« on: March 11, 2013, 04:35:27 PM »
Quick post to say that eating or drinking ANYTHING results in me getting a tight chest, throat flutters and palpitations. I don't think my heart rate is actually raised but I certainly notice it more, mostly in the evening or mid-afternoon. Does this happen to anyone else? :(

Oh yes! This totally happens to me sometimes and when my HA is really bad it freaks me out. My heart rate increases and I get palps and flutters. I believe that it's totally benign and my doctor has told me it's nothing to worry about. Do you notice it more after you eat certain things?

Unfortunatly not, even water and salad triggers it!

How much water have you been drinking on a regular basis? Even slight dehydration can cause it. So can acid reflux. Is there any food that you notice causes it more than others? Have you ever been tested for gluten intolerance?

I've kept a food diary for some time but it all seems to be totally random. No glucose intolerance either, nor anything like hyperthoroidism (spelling? :p)

Interesting. Have you talked to your doctor about it? Acid reflux can definitely cause this, perhaps they can put you on a PPI.

Heh, I've tried that too; 2 diilffent PPIs plus Gaviscon Advance don't work either. Guess it's easy to see why I'm worried, despite a clear echo test.

I get this and was just dx'd with GERD and am told it is common. Those meds you've taken work for some with GERD but not all.

This has been happening to me lately, usually after I eat a lot though. I was wondering if this is something that happens to others. I was assuming it was anxiety related so I wasn't stressing much about it. The reflux connection is interesting, I never thought of that. If your echo was fine I'm sure it's nothing to stress about. My cardiologist told me if something was wrong with the heart, it would more than likely show up on an echo.

Sometimes if I eat spicy foods, it happens to me also.

I used to get that as well. I had several cardiac tests done...all were negative. The cardiologist also mentioned that when you eat, it causes your heart to work more because of the digestion process (just something to consider).
