Possible Fibromyalgia diagnosis...shooting pains in neck!
« on: March 11, 2013, 02:41:11 PM »
Hello everyone - My PCP is in the process of diagnosing me with fibromyalgia. Lupus, Rum. Arthiritis, thyroid conditions have been ruled out. I am in the process of having my Neuro rule out MS. Without getting into all of my fibro symptoms, I will just talk about one issue that is concerning me greatly. I keep on getting these shooting pains in my neck. The shooting pains in the front of my neck scare me the most. They only last for a second or two and then go away. However my neck is constantly sore. My face, jaw (possible TMJ going on), and back of my head are sore too. I worry that the shooting pains in my neck are caused by some sort of cancer - thyroid cancer, throat cancer, lymphoma, etc. Could these pains be caused by my fibro? Tension? Anxiety? They are in the front of my throat! :(

hi Moebearocka....I have similar issues...pain in the neck (front and back) ear pain, throat pain, jaw, forehead and top of head...sinuses as well..it appears to all be related to my sternocleidmastoid muscle...i'm going for physio therapy for it...of course I'm worried as well,.. I keep thinking I have a sinus tumour or something sinister like that...that muscle apparently causes all kinds of trouble...worth looking into...hope that helps a bit

Angrry - Oh man! I just looked up where that muscle was located and that muscle is extremely tight on both sides of my neck. It is worse on the right side but all of my aches/pains are always worse on the right side. I have throat pain as well. Feels like something is stuck in there at times and I get a little congestion in there but nothing that comes out. Do you ever get shooting pains into your ears as well? My doctor has felt my thryoid and feels nothing there and all of my thyroid tests are normal. I worry about throat cancer but then again I'm 33 and have never smoked a day in my life so I know my risks for throat cancer are low. Is the therapy helping?

yep..i get pains in my ear as well...my pains are all mostly on the right side...pain in my throat, under my jaw-bone, temple, etc etc...the physio-therapist says my sternocelidmastoid is extremely tight...i've only been a couple of times so it will be a while before i notice a difference...i use heat as well to try to loosen up the muscle..it helps for a while but it keeps coming back..i need to do more stretching and physio..of course i still worry that there's more going on but i always think that..good luck with it

Fibromyalgia in my opinion is a name given for symptoms of something ... It's a syndrome and I believe he core root of the issues need to be discovered . Before looking at ms test for Lyme disease

Fibro is something I have had for 22 yrs.
There is so much that can be related to it.
Tension on how you sit and your posture can cause shooting pains in your neck too.

Missworry: I have tested for MS and Lyme. Negative on Lyme and Normal MRI of brain. Everything has been ruled out that mimics fibro. All signs point to fibro being the diagnosis.

Are you going to a doctor that believes fibromyalgia is a real condition? I believe it is. My grandma and aunt have been diagnosed and I've heard it's heredity. Anyone else in your family with it? Did your doctor do the tender point exam? What are your most constant symptoms?
