Uveitis??!?!?!
« on: March 11, 2013, 01:28:37 PM »
Eye doc appt tomorrow... petrified they will find something like uveitis/optic neuritis.

I have been dealing with:

-floaters in right eye... 2 very noticeable and a few others when outside
-sore/tired eyes
-eyelids are puffier than usual at times
-occasionally gritty eyes

I am so worried and afraid I will have a panic attack during exam.  These floaters are worse than I  have ever had before... they are always with me like bugs flying around... and the sore eyes on top of that.......

I really could use some similar experiences/what to expect... I have never had a dilated eye exam.  Never really worried much about my eyes until now. Thx

I know that eye exams can be scary because yiur always expecting the worse but calm down. I've been there, many times, sometimes more than once a year, all of my life. Dilation is nit anything to fear. They basically out some drops in your eyes and then tike's have to sit and wait for the effect to take place. It just makes your pupils wider. You dont feel anything except extra sensitivity to light and if you are near or far sighted, your vision will be extra blurry. Sometimes, depending in what drops they use or who knows what, you might feel a very slight stinging from the drops. Sort of like getting sweat in your eye. Nothing major. After the time has passed, the doctor will check your dilated eyes with one hell of a bright light. It takes some time because he will ask you to look up, sideways, downwards, etc. The exam checks behind your eye, your retina, etc. Its fine. No big deal. What your describing doesn't sound like any optical nerve issue. The floaters can be anxiety related, your just noticing them more often. If they are like snow and your also having flashes then in a more rare situation, it could be your retina. Retina issues are completely fixable so take it easy. You will be fine. Good thing is that once you go through this exam, you will be able to continue following them up in a yearly basis and you will not have to worry about eye diseases again.

Pfft, you're using uveitis as an excuse to avoid your trial, just like Silvio Berlusconi.

Joking!! These symptoms don't sound serious to me. A bunch of floaters don't mean anything. Best of luck!

Thank you for the replies.  Unfortunately, when I went I was told they only do dilated eye exams during daytime appointments, so I had a regular exam and had to schedule the dilation for end of month.  He did not seem overly concerned about my onset of floaters but he did mention I was young and said if I see flashes to call asap.  I feel like I occasionally see little flashes and I told him that but he made it clear that they would be pronounced and I would know.  I am very concerned because I see about 5 floaters in one eye and I see them daily.  dots, strands.. .even a clear looking one. I began seeing them in January and am only in my late 20's. Can this be normal?  They are not occasional look-up-at the sky floaters they are visible daily.  Very bothersome. I am nervous of what they may find.....

what you are describing is NOTHING to do with optic neuritis.

floaters are nothing serious.  That is UNLESS you see hundreds all of a sudden and have huge amount of dramatic flashing.  Then you'd see a dark curtain cover your vision.  this curtain wouldn't go away unless or until you had surgery to repair a detached retina.  yes even if you had those things I just described, it wouldn't be neuritis or uveitis, but detached retina.  Which you don't have EITHER.

What you have going is some anxiety/stress and an over active BEASTY telling you stuff that you are swallowing hook, line and sinker.

Jewel.. I do have an eye condition...  I have three fluid leaks behind my retina.  AND I knew I had stuff going on and the eye doc took one look and he knew too.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
