Lexapro increase

I have been taking lexapro 10mg for 4 weeks and just 2 days ago my doctor increased my dosage to 20mg. I took my first 20mg tablet yesterday and i just slept for the rest of the day and now i have woken up with a really bad headache. Is it normal for me to have side affects already and if so should these last about a week or so since i was already taking the 10mg?

Yes, side-effects can begin with the very first dose/dose increase. They should diminish faster than they did when you first took the Lexapro, however, this is very much determined by individual biology so your experience may be different. Just keep reminding yourself that while they can be a pain in the butt, side-effects are not usually harmful.
