Suggestions on how to get over my Anxiety
« on: March 11, 2013, 07:34:05 AM »
I've been an anxiety sufferer for years. At first I had full blown panic attack attacks which scared the hell out of me! These were mainly brought on by the fact I had a new unexplained constant headache and I had this irrational paranioa that I had a brain tumour. This turned me into an agrophobic and I couldn't leave my house for about 8 months until my Dad forcably dragged me out. My Dad said to me he use to be like me when he was younger, he said I'm not dying and to not worry so much.  I went to the doctors for months and they prescribed various medications. I eventually went for a CAT and MRI scan on my head and they found a cyst in my brain but said it had nothing to do with the headaches as mine were on my right side and the cyst was located on the left side. They said if it did become a problem you would have a headache on your left side and have seizures etc (which I found extremely comforting haha). So I've had these headaches for 3 years now and I've basically learned to put up with them but now I've started to get sensations in my chest and I'm just wondering if my anxiety is coming back I've been to the doctors 3 times in the past 2 weeks! I have a new found fear of a heart attack but ever since this has happened my headaches have disappeared. I'm wondering if a bigger paranioa has enable me to get over my other paranioa as I'm pretty sure I'm focusing on this now and not my headaches! I'm 19 years old too.

Welcome to anxietyzone. At the age of 19, getting hit by a car is a greater possibility than having a heart attack.
A combination of therapy, self help, doing things that you enjoy (in other words keep your mind occupied), acceptance
of the way you are can go along way in the lessening of your health anxiety. possible natural or prescription supplements and
the list goes on. Sometimes trial and error is needed to see what works for you as everyone is different. You can discuss any issues
that you may have on this forum or in the chat room.

I agree with Marc. Therapy worked wonders for me, and some short-term anti-anxiety meds were a godsend for me. Exercise, when I wasn't too scared to do it, as well as breathing exercises and yoga were also helpful.

Get busy, get out of the house, distract yourself. 19 is FAR too young for heart problems.

In case anyone is still confused:  googling your symptoms will cause you to remain in a state of extreme anxiety. Stepping away from the internet is the first step toward lasting peace.
