Worried about bumps/bones in base of skull??!
« on: March 10, 2013, 09:28:27 PM »
Hello everyone. I used to have major lymphoma fears about 10 years ago that I managed to get over. Lately I've been obsessed with these two symmetrical bones/bumps that I have at the base of my skull in the back of head. My mom says that she has them too and my husband has them but mine feel bigger. They don't feel like lymph nodes though. It feels like hard bone. I do have TMJ and my face, jaw, ears, neck, teeth, etc. are all sore from the clenching i'm doing from being stressed. These two boney bumps are also sore on the back of my head. Do any of you have these too? I had a CT Scan of my head done about 3 weeks ago that was normal. If these were tumors or swollen nodes (which they don't feel like nodes), would they have come up on my CT Scan?

Well I don't think we have the same thing BUT I do have a lymph node/bumpy thing right at the start of my hairline at the base of my skull. I was freaked out at first but three years later I know it causes no harm. You shouldn't be worried because you had a CT done. You are okay so don't worry about it and relax. If it was a tumor or anything bad your doctors would have caught it.

Try to relax. Don't worry yourself over nothing :D

Bye!

Everyone's skull is different, they all have different lumps and bumps and they are of different size on different people, so just because your bumps are bigger than your husband's does not mean cancer. They are probably sore because you've been prodding them. You had a normal CT done which would have shown any abnormality in the bones, so relax you're fine :)

Thanks to the both of you. I am trying to stay rational, but as you guys know, it's hard. I think the bumps are sore because of TMJ, tension in neck, and the fact that I keep touching them. I need to stop looking for new things to be wrong, once old ailments go away. Vicious cycle.

I had a lymph node in the base of my skull swell about a year ago. It scared me to no end. It was very apparent it was swollen. There was a drastic difference in each side. I went to the doctor who told me the scratch on my head a few inches above was causing the swellin. She said it was very, very, very rare for there to be something sinister from those particular nodes swelling.

With that said, I think my nodes are swollen again from time to time, but they are not. Mine feel like bone as well. I bet you are just fine!

Im sorry your going through this, im going through brain tumor fears right now also. If anything sinister was going in it would have shown up on your CT scan. Your good, relax, beleive the test :) Try to remember that we are human. We have lumps and bumps, we twitch and jerk, it's all part of being human and being alive - not everything is a symptom. Have a good day!

My hair is cut very, very short - not shaved, but short enough to see all kinds of lumps / bumps / scars on my head. I have a few areas where it is obviously the skull bone. However, just over a year ago, I noticed a large 'squishy' lump on the back of my head, just behind the ear. This was DEFINITELY not a bone - completely freaked me out and headed down the HA trail yet again. I went to the dr and he gave me 2 choices - leave it in there, and it could grow larger (Def not CA though), or get that sucker cut out. I went with #2 - outpatient surgery, cut it out and was nothing to worry about. The doc said it is very common to see people have these on their head..probably a fatty 'you know what' that is not at all dangerous.

I can't begin to tell you the things my mind came up with to self-diagnose.
