To people who have been to a neuro
« on: March 10, 2013, 01:21:18 PM »
I am due for a neurologist appointment the last week in the month. My question is what test will they do first. My complaint will be muscle twitching, feeling like i'm choking sometimes, weird feeling in head and neck, feels like I stop breathing sometimes when sleep, nervous feeling when not feeling nervous, fast heartrate for no reason, foot jumping when pressing on brake while driving after I was bending over washing my daughter's head in the tub after putting stress on the back of the legs. Also I had a clean brain MRI two years ago and should I tell her I've already had one, I want her to look at everything, my brain and my spine.

First, if you're concerned about Multiple Sclerosis, he'll probably get his nurse to perform a routine evoked potentials test, which really shouldn't take any longer than 20-25 minutes. It just involves a few sticky electrodes in choice places on your head, neck, legs, and arms.

After that, the results will be forwarded to the neuro himself, he'll discuss them, and then ask about prior studies done on you, which you will either have documented in an impression form, or if you don't, you'll just have to verbally inform him. Then he'll go through the symptoms, ask you several questions about your history, and will perform a routine neurological examination of your entire body, most likely. That's easy and painless.

Then he'll talk to you, and, in my case, give you a stern talking to about getting anxiety under control.

That basically sums it up.

Your last part made me laugh and I needed that after only getting 3 hours sleep last night. I am hoping that's what I will hear.
