Has anyone tried any natural supplements??
« on: March 09, 2013, 08:16:00 PM »
I was thinking about trying sloe Vera juice or gel for digestive issues, has anyone tried this or any supplements that have worked? Please share.... I have heard that eating a hand full of cashews a day will help with depression or 3000 mg niacin for depression. I am trying to be proactive. I read book about ibs and it talks about irritable bodies caused by anxiety and depression. It was very informative. Pretty much you body is in adrenal overload and crashes causing lots of symptoms that people complain about in here. It's like your nerves become super sensitive. Thought I'd share

I use L Theanine when I remember. It works well! 200 mg a day can work wonders.

Something I have heard about is Omega 3 supplements and magnesium. I take both.
Another natural help is some exercise. Though I hate exercising I do try to do it on a regular basis.

I took aloe vera juice for a while. It was helpful for my digestive issues. Made my throat feel better, that's for sure.

Better than wildly stabbing in the dark, it could be a good idea to see a naturopath? They can look at your specific diet, deficiencies, and potential issues that might be causing or exacerbating some or all of your symptoms.

Nevertheless, a few remedies are:
1. Omega-3
I find this to work wonders. When used over the longer term it really helps me to rationalise and I can actually use my CBT techniques effectively. You need to find ones with a high concentration of EPA and DHA and take them at quite a high dose (maybe 3 to 4 grams a day)

2. Ashwagandha
This is another one I use and which I think I find effective (though I can' say for sure). I think it helps me in removing any panic and allows me to mellow out. I don't get so stressed over things.

3. SAM-e
Not tried this one, but its meant to be effective. I'm not sure you can take this one at the same time as SSRIs. Consult your health care practitioner!

4. Vitamin C
Vit C supports the adrenal glands and can regulate the body's production of cortisol - a hormone that has a significant impact on stress and anxiety.

5. A complete diet
This is really important. Eat A LOT of veg. I say veg rather than fruit because fruit is very high in fructose and is not necessarily all that good for you. Veg is where is at. Moreover, you need to try to avoid toxic, junk foods. I know this is hard in this day and age with the Standard American Diet (SAD - the worst thing to happen to human health since the bubonic plague). Stay away from fried and processed foods. If in doubt when looking at a label follow this motto: 'If it comes from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don't'. Moreover, sugars and carbs with readily accessible sugars feed pathogenic organisms within the body and mess about with the blood sugar levels. A clean inner-system and a stable blood sugar level are a must for feeling good.

Also a milk thistle supplement that is high in Silymarin (the active ingredient) might be beneficial as it supports liver function. The liver is there to clear the crap and toxins out of your blood stream.

Having said all these things though, they're pretty much useless if your diet is poor.

I tried to use natural supplements before because someone recommended them to me, but if course, I Googled the herbs that were in it and freaked out at the possible side effects. So nope, no supplements for me.

A shorter list than those for SSRIs!

My wife recently saw a natural physician and some of the things he recommended were
Omega 3's, a probiotic, Coenzyme Q-10, Vitamin C and D-3, etc.

I've been reading a lot about Lemon balm and passionflower...found that in a tea form.  Just got it tonight, might try it b/c the side effects from the prescription that the dr. gave me were to much.  Haven't seen much on side effects for either of them.  Also, adding Vitamin B.  Has anyone else tried these?
