Swollen lymph node help? 4cm!! Freaking out?!
« on: March 09, 2013, 02:24:45 AM »
I have a swollen lymph node in my neck/jaw area. I believe this to be because of the abscess I recently had which it only swelled when it got bad. I'm taking antibiotics for the abscess. But my main concern is now the lymph node it is about 4cm maybe less and I notice it going down. I don't have any other symptoms such as fever, night sweats, loss of appetite, sudden weight loss. I'm just afraid of what it is. So I came here. I'm 19 years old I have gained weigjt recently so it could be a fat lump it is on my left side of my neck/jaw area. I have posted everywhere and most people say it is common. It is non painful, it can be moved around, not hard but not exactly squishy. Please someone put my mind to ease I've been worried sick. I actually have nausea because of how scared I am. I weigh myself 3-4 times a day just in fear of it. I can't study, I can't play games, I can't focus on my friends. I just keep thinking of not wanting to lay next to my mom as I die and I cry to her. I've done so much wrong in this world I don't want it to end like this I wanna to be a better man. Please someone help me. I'm also scared of doctors and surgery and needles. But I read one swollen lymph node that's non painful and movable is no cause for alarm. Pleas help me out.

Relax! It's very common. I had one under my jaw last week that was about the size of a large marble. My doctor explained that means that your body is fighting the infection, which is a good sign and what it's supposed to do. I have another small one on the side of my neck right now, which I think just hasn't gone down yet from my recent infection. You're alright and the antibiotic should start helping soon.

If you notice the lymph node going down it is not cancer. Cancer doesn't go down, it gets bigger. This is a normal reaction of the lymph nodes to an infection, you're fine.

I've had constantly swollen lymph nodes for about 9 months now. It definitely is just indicative of your body trying to fight something off. Your lymph nodes screen the crap and debris out of the lymphatic system, which in turn screen the crap and debris out of your circulatory system. You can stimulate your lymphatic system using dry skin brushing and (no joke) bouncing up and down. The reason that latter is supposed to work is that your lymphatic system has no means to pump itself and the up and down action stimulates its movement. Moreover, to keep a healthy lymphatic system you should stay away from refined foods, eat plenty of fresh veg, and drink plenty of water or herbal teas.

Fingers crossed with a healthy lymphatic system your body should be in a better position to deal with all the toxins caused when the immune system does battle. Accordingly, you should feel better :)
