scared & heartbroken - need hope
« on: March 08, 2013, 04:15:03 PM »
I havent posted anything on here for a while. I've been doing a little better & started therapy.

I found out today that my dad may have lung cancer that spread to his liver. I dont know what to do. He had a pet scan and it revealed the spots in his liver. I am beyond terrified. All I can find online is how he only has months to live and he's going to die. He's 55, his birthday is in April. I'm 23 and although I work he is the provider. My mom doesn't work. I'm trying to stay positive but all I can think of is not having him tell me everything will be ok, or playing with his grandkids in the future, or seeing me graduate from grad school.

He is my rock & I am truly lost.

Just need some hope that things can get better.

First of all, stop your online research! Wait until your have definitive information before making your own diagnosis/prognosis.  Secondly, there is ALWAYS hope!! People live with cancer-they undergo surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, etc... The longer people live, the better the chance a new drug or treatment is available.  Easier said than done, but stay positive.

Thanks Bamboo - my dad is certainly not letting the news depress him. He keeps saying he's not sick & I'll be stuck with him for a while.
I will try to stop jumping to conclusions but as you said, easier said than done  :sad0126:

The only comforting (?) news is that the lung nodule hasn't grown since August and my parents told me he had liver spots detected in a ultrasound in August as well & it hasn't grown. His doctor then said it was not worrisome based on my dad's other results (clinical surgeon with oncology experience)

Thanks again for giving me some hope :)
