Not sure if I should go back on meds

I get severe anxiety that's usually triggered by big changes or tough decisions. It's debilitating, sets in and lasts a couple weeks. Depression usually follows and it's just really freaking horrible.

It usually only lasts for 2-3 weeks maybe once, rarely twice, per year.

There's a part of me that doesn't want to go on meds (I was on Prozac for a little while) for something that happens so infrequently... then again, I HATE THIS FEELING.

What do you think about long-term meds in this case?

I think if it'll better enable me to handle these major anxiety-inducing situations, then I'd probably try anything.

If you situation is only one were you get problems once in a blue moon they can put you on something that you take only when needed. Most times this would not be an SSRI. More likely to be a benzo. To take the edge off of the anxiety. With an SSRI you would need to be on one full time to gain any use of it. It is not something you can stop / start, etc, etc. If you done that it would be pointless. You will have the times you feel great and don't need medication. So ask your doctor is there an alternative. Explaining the way you feel only for a short time every so often. I am sure he will come up with something.
