Sudden numbness in hand and foot
« on: March 06, 2013, 05:59:22 PM »
Trying to talk myself down from a stroke panic - I'm 29 and have normal blood pressure, so I'm thinking unlikely - but this is disturbing me.  The two outermost fingers on my left hand started buzzing and tingling like they were asleep.  Then a minute or so later a patch on my left foot (big toe and surrounding foot area) went completely dead numb.  Then the tingling spread to the rest of my left hand.

My chronic pain has gone through the roof lately.  I wonder if I've pinched a bunch of nerves at once.  Or it could just be anxiety.  But of course this is resurrecting my brain tumor anxiety and giving me stroke fears.  Sigh.  Not fun, especially when you have pain to deal with (legs, lower back and hips mostly).

You've had lots of testing done in the recent past and have seen a neurologist a few times, right? You've had numbness in your hands before, right? When you noticed the finger thing today did you get scared? The fear could easily induce a flash of panic that can cause other symptoms to happen instantly. Or, you are pinching a nerve. Or, you are focusing way too much on these symptoms and making them worse. It isn't a stroke. Look at all the posts on this site of people having numbness or tingling in their bodies. It isn't likely that we alll have MS or strokes. There is something we all have in common though. Anxiety and HA. Go figure.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Yeah, I know it's just anxiety.  I'm under a tremendous amount of personal stress right now, to the point where I'm not functioning.  I'm amazing I have as much use of my body as I do...usually when I'm anxious at this level my arms and chest are completely numb.
