WHAT IS GERD?

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE, IVE BEEN READING ALOT OF ABOUT THIS GERD CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IT IS.

gastroesophageal reflux disease.....basically-nasty chronic heartburn.

I was just diagnosed with acid reflux. I had the barium test (upper GI) done and when I was drinking the barium it shot back up. Dr. started me on 40mg of Protonix each morning. With me, I have very little heartburn so it doesnt always show in that way. I had trouble swallowing which is another symptom. The next test I am having is the endoscopy...not looking forward to that one. Anyone else have this done and if so, what was your experience?

hi daisy! i had an EGD last month....they sedate you thru an IV,so it's no biggie.....trish

When they did the upper GI test on me they saw I have a hiatal hernia, yet when I then went and had a barium xray they couldn't even see it and said sometimes small ones pull up behind something where they don't show up.

luckily,no. tho i do get these oh so fun esophageal spasms....real nasty gripping pain in the center of my chest. my gastoenterologisy told me that when a person gets the spams,it looks like a corkscrew on a barium x-ray. trish
