I want to cry....
« on: March 06, 2013, 11:08:26 AM »
I thought I had found a psychiatrist that would do counseling and medication (it's hard to find those now) this is the quote on her page under psychiatrist.

"I am a psychiatrist who uses a biopsychosocial model for understanding problems of the mind. Human beings are complex individuals with a specific constitutional makeup, a unique developmental history, and often a varied social environment. All of these factors are important to assess and understand when you are suffering. If you feel that you need a complete evaluation of your mental state that includes examining all of those factors, then I can help. If you want to be sure and rule out other underlying medical illnesses, I can also help."

Did you see the part where she also said if you wanted to rule out any medical illnesses she would help you with that as well, talk about perfect. Well I called to see if I could set up an appointment and she's not taking new patients. I just wanna cry. My psychiatrist is basically a pill pusher and I don't think he listens to what I'm saying when I tell him what's going on and my psychologist whom I've only seen twice can't prescribe meds. I really want a psychiatrist that does both. It would have been great to have one that understands the health issues we fear as well. Damn!!!!

I had that same issue a while back. It is frustrating. I was able to find a counselor who is worth their weight in gold. Hope you find someone! Don't give up!

Yes, don't give up. See about a waiting list....ask if there is a way she can still get you in despite saying no new patients...who knows? Write her a letter / and email, perhaps:)

Then move on to find another choice, if this one doesn't pan out.

Also, there is lots of self-study / self-help you can try, as well. Much of the info is pretty much readily available on reputable websites that can get you jump started in learning about the different exercises and techniques and theories and therapies and educational stuff, etc. Of course, when beginning, it might be nice to have some insightful, compassionate, professional guidance. Anxiety peeps tend to like to be told what they are doing are the 'correct' things...at least while starting new actions and habits. But, throughout your lifetime, the things you learn that can help will have to be embraced and practiced and believed in by you:)

It's, likely, a lifetime commitment.....staying on a viable healing path. But, as we begin to see some of our successes we build momentum. There is no better momentum than seeing that we, ourselves, can do things - embrace actions and habits that influence our mindsets and give us the best possible chance at removing the HYPER anxiety - the DOMINANT fears - the DRIVING doubts. When we see that we can do this, MAN, it can feel as if we have some of the 'weight of the world' being lifted of our tired shoulders. Let yourself feel this. Don't worry about 'it' coming back. When we begin to move towards some peace, the habits and actions can become almost automatic in their response, ready to help you throughout stressful times and life events. We can't know the future. But, we can know that we can learn how to help us when that future might take an unpleasant turn, or our anxiety amps (for whatever reason). Don't count on our futures taking an unpleasant turn (as anxiety peeps seem to wait for the 'other shoe to drop', too often). But, through all that you do to help yourself, you will be able to face and accept stresses and fears. Also, it can help with accepting the good things - the wonderful happenings in life. Anxiety peeps can get wigged out when things seem to be going "too well"....or they suddenly remember that they aren't so crazy anxious, and begin fretting - why?

Best wishes! You can do this:)

Peace and Feel Well:)
