Another pregnancy phobia, rather silly
« on: March 06, 2013, 08:51:31 AM »
Alright...here's the deal.

I haven't had sex for three years, so that's a foolproof way of not being pregnant. However, in August I got so drunk I got a blackout of a few hours and thus I do not know what happened then. Chances of sex are slim, but I'm a 'what if' person...

So, now 7 months later I watched that show on TLC 'I didn't know I was pregnant' and BAM, anxiety hits. None of those women had any signs of pregnancy until the baby came out. Again, the 'what ifs' start. What if I DID have sex? What if I'm one of them who has no symptoms whatsover and in two months a baby comes out?

It scares the crap out of me. I absolutely do not want kids, seeing that I'm alone and really do not like kids.

So now the questions. What are the chances on being pregnant after a possible night of sex, then having no symptoms until at least the seventh month? Or...barely any symptoms. I have to admit that two months ago I felt a little lightheaded and tired. Granted, I was in Africa then, hard work and warm weather, so it could be anything. This lasted for about 6 weeks. Now it's all gone.

How much would it cost to buy a little kit in the chemist or local shop to let you know the answer to your question? You can sit around and worry about this for as long as you want. Or run to shop. Get a kit. Do a test at home. I doubt you are pregnant anyway. Just the mind running wild after watching a tv programme. But do a test and find out. Put your mind at ease.

Yeaaaahh...I did one of those a few days ago.

Of course it was negative.
But my silly mind goes like: That test looks at HCG (or..whichever) hormone. The hormone that also stops your periods. Obviously nothing stopped for me, so I'm guessing the HCG levels would be low anyway, so the test would be negative.

Ah well, I guess I'll have to wait for two months and see if anything comes out. Honestly, female bodies suck.

I think that show is fake. I have been pregnant and trust me there is no way you wouldn't know. For One if you were seven months pregnant the baby would of flipped head down by now and be kicking your rincage so hard you would know something was up! :) not to mention the other symptoms that go along with it. I had a very easy pregnancy and it was still miserable. So please trust me you would know!

Thanks for your input.
I know by far most women experience enough symptoms. It just would seem that there are a few who have none and that's what scares me. Now that the pregnancy test was negative I'm still not convinced. There are so many what ifs....What if my HCG levels are just low? What if the baby would be in a tilted uterus, so I don't get a belly? Etc.

It sucks a lot!

I used to have this same problem...really bad.

I saw that show and it drove me nuts and made the what-if thoughts worse!

When I was younger, in my teens/early 20s it was really bad. After any sexual encounter, I would have these what-if thoughts about possibly being pregnant, even though I used a contraceptive and practiced safe sex. The fear would last for days until my next cycle.

I suggest you go to the gynecologyst. If you're really afraid of getting pregnant, you should get a form of high-performing birth control like an IUD. They're 95-99% effective and last for years. So it's slim to none that you'll get pregnant in the time that it's in.

That might take away some of the anxiety.

I have à tilted uterus.  You still show. After a few weeks of being pregnant your uterus falls forward like normal.

I know people who... you would have never guessed were pregnant and were able to hide it from their family.  So not everyone shows really.  But if your test was negative this late in the game, you should be fine.
