Is it normal to.....:
« on: March 06, 2013, 05:47:19 AM »
Sometimes when i listen to music lately i don't feel anything like i used to and it scares me. like i have no emotional reaction to music, and i feel numb sometimes.
Also is it normal to have trouble taking in information, and struggling to understand concepts due to anxiety?

I think when we all listen to music we get different things. Not everybody feels anything emotional when listening to it. I know I don't. A few songs can go right over my head. Wouldn't even hear them. Other songs I like to sing along to. Even when I am outdoors. Walking along singing ' wish you where here ' by Pink Flyod. Not many songs have that effect on me though. It would more depend what each person is used to experiencing when listening to music. If you are normally a certain way and you see a change, you can try stop yourself. Play the song over again. It could just be a phase you are going through.

Well I am one of those people who believes we have the power within us all to stop anything negative. We just have to believe in ourselves a bit more. No matter how bad we may be feeling. Tell ourselves we have been here before. We have been here many times before. And we are still around to tell the tale. It has never really harmed us. May have made us feel bad. But we have always had those good moments as well. Good moments we tend to forget about once we begin to hit a rough patch. We should be feeding off those good moments. Reminding ourselves they do happen. That they can happen again. No matter what we are feeling like now, there is always a road back. Once we begin to feed ourselves these positive messages it will slowly push the negative feelings to one side. We will see a difference.

As far as not being able to take in information and not understanding concepets, that is my worst symptom of anxiety. I have trouble following conversations because im so fearful that I wont understand what they are saying (anxiety)or afraid of being judged, hard time following lectures in school, and a hard time understanding even movies! With this happening so often it makes me beleive that im "dumb" even though i know im not if that makes sense.

Yes, that's exactly like me!
Going to movies used to be horrible for me. I would sit their analyzing every little detail, and asking the person i was with questions about the movie, so i could try and piece it together.
In class I find it especially difficult to understand technical/practical exercises. I used to study cookery and i could barely keep and follow instructions, also at the moment i am doing photography, and during a studio class we have i always stand on the sidelines as i don't have a clue what i'm doing.
I agree, it makes us feel 'dumb', but i know its just a result of an overtired mind.
