Tooth Pain
« on: March 05, 2013, 06:52:52 PM »
I have had pain since the end of January. Before that I was having massive headaches.
I went to my doctor and she said it was stress and hormones. I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue and bad posture so I chalked it up to that.
Then the pain in the teeth happened to come on very strong. I know I have TMJ and I clench my teeth at  night. I went to the dentist and he said that even the cavity that he had filled in late October looks fine but for a hairline  crack  in a tooth next to it.
Now it seems that he teeth on the right side of my mouth all hurt. Some are sensitive to cold air and beverages etc. But sometimes the pain will just come on. Like right now I have not been clenching or eating anything and the pain is throbbing in the tooth that got filled in October. I am going to the dentist in two days to have the hairline tooth "fixed" by a crown. I am a complete dentiphobe. I make sure I floss and brush especially with sensitive toothpaste.
I know I have trigger point pain in other parts of my body and when that has happened I have imagined the worse. I have had some serious health issues in the past as have other members of my family. (My mother last year had two 14 hour open heart surgeries for aortic dissections and my father had a stroke and then about 7-8 surgeries for melanoma). I have also been one of their main caretakers. I am the oldest of their 7 children (the youngest is in her late 30's and I am in my late 40's). I do not have any children of my own as a result of the health issue I developed shortly after I got married. I have put myself and my issues to the background. Now as my body is trying to relax and go through a normal passage of life (perimenopause) all this other stuff is hitting me.
I worry about everything. My health and that of my parents is one of the main things. I have a brother who is the main caretaker of my parents and then it is me. Four of my siblings live out  of state or out of the country so they are not close. The youngest of the siblings lives close but she has four young children and one has a heart health issue. So that mainly leaves me and the one brother. My parents are doing ok. So I am very fortunate there. I just am always on alert.

I've got major dental anxiety like you ... definitely no fun, but there are tons of people out there just like us.

Glad to hear you're addressing your dental issues.  I've had years of experience (as have others on the forum) with some major dental issues and surgeries.

The hard part about dental issues (like medical, too) is that pain can be referred.  You might think the pain you're feeling is from a specific tooth, but it could be one on the other side of your mouth.  I'd talk to your dentist about it.  Might even ask if a pano x-ray is in order.  Especially glad to hear you're addressing the fractured tooth - get that covered so it doesn't turn into something worse.  The fracture might be deeper than you think, also - could be what's causing your pain (I had this issue - didn't even show up in the pano, but when the tooth was extracted it fell apart because of multiple fractures).  I had pain similar to yours.

I don't want to jinx it but the pain was OK this morning when I awoke.
It is still there but not to the extent it was. I do wear a mouth guard or splint at night. I have four (and trust me they are not cheap).
I slept through the night (which is something I have not been able to do of late --like 3 yrs).
Then I got the HA going again this morning when my mind is allowed to wander.

The pain is awful.
I had about 7 novacaine shots.
The temporary crown is on and I am afraid to eat anything that I have to chew.
The tooth on the inside (next to my tongue) is very rough and jagged. I have left a message with the dental office.
I do not want to go through this again. both sides of my mouth hurt like the dickens.

I wish I knew if it is the TMJ or is the crown on the other side causing issues now.

I was so nervous this morning before this that I could not eat. I went to acupuncture and calmed down some. She even sent me away with extra little pins in my ears to soothe me.
