One of my biggest triggers has happened!
« on: March 05, 2013, 01:44:36 PM »
One of my biggest HA triggers has happened....my son has Influenza Type A. He's 9. Yesterday he was at the doctor and she suspected it and swabbed him, put him on Tamiflu. As the afternoon wore on he got worse. We ended up in the ER. They swabbed him and it was postive. His CXR was negative. We're doing albuterol tx every 6 hours and back to back tylenol/motrin every 3.

The Akron Children's Dr said that this strain isn't helped by the vaccine and can come with 108 temps. I am worried sick, exhausted from not sleeping and fear that his younger sisters are going to get it.

We have had two local kids die after getting the flu and they were healthy. My kids have cough variant asthma. I am terrified they are going to start filling up overnight and be gone like the one little boy.

We are doing everything they told us, I'm trying to believe them when they say he'll be fine. I just feel like having a mental breakdown but the meds they have me on won't even let me do that. I can barely cry anymore.  :sign0067:

Every parent hates seeing their children ill. I think even those without HA are apt to jump to worst case, million in one scenarios when it is their child.

So don't be too hard on yourself for excessive worry. It's not like your HA is causing problems for him.   But in the back of your mind, remind yourself that you are taking good care of him, doctors are monitoring him, and they see things turning out fine.

Get some rest and try to take care of yourself, so you can take care of that little guy.

Thank You! He seems to be doing a lot better. Temps are down more, no wheezing. I'm making sure to take my meds so that I don't screw things up on my end.

I guess what it boils down to for me is that I want a guarantee that I will grow old and watch my children grow until it's my time to die at a very old age? Thing is...no one can promise me that. It really sucks to not be able to handle it like a normal person but gotta keep trying!

Quite often I've stated that I want health "assurance" not health "insurance."  It's something that can't be had.
