Decreasing mirtazipine..feel like c**p!!
« on: March 05, 2013, 12:03:31 PM »
Im trying to wean off my remeron that I've been taking for 6 weeks (nnot working for anxiety). I've lowered my dose from 30mg to 15mg over the last couple of nights. Today I just feel so exhausted, nauseous, light headed and my stomach hurts. Has anyone else had experience coming off this med, and how long did it take?

No experience with remeron, but from your recent posts you really need to speak with your doc about taking a benzo to get a grip on the anxiety and most likely anxiety that may be increasing from trying to take AD meds.  First, we all get nervous about possible side effects and addiction, this is a symptom to a large degree of the anxiety itself (and the depression that often seems to follow).  I can tell you from my prior experience that klonopin is not that hard to wean off of once the AD is working and you are comfortable for a while, no need to rush.  This assumes you don't drink, as that does not go well with benzos, but otherwise they tend to be very safe meds.  When you are ready to go off them, just go really slow, finishing off with crumbs over as long as you need.  By then the AD should have been working for a while and will make the benzo discontinuation easier.  It sounds to me like you also need a lot of emotional support from family/friends/therapist or whatever other resources while you get onto an effective med regime, I know its not easy and I have my own struggles right now too with it.  Recovery often seems so far off or impossible, but it does happen, did for me twice before for over a decade each.  Claire Weeks books might also give you some relief in the sense that she clearly explains "nervous disease" and you can open the book and find all the symptoms that seem like some kind of horrible illness are all just anxiety/depression tricking us.  She also explains how to deal with it with minimal or no meds, now I admit I'm not strong enough to put all of her ideas into practice (particularly with actual panic) but she has valid points and some good coping mechanisms that are useful even when you are on meds.  Best of luck, this will get better.

Believe me I would stay on the klonopin a bit longer but my doctor thinks I should just be able to stop it.   weeklytried dry cutting it down but get bad WD when I actually stop taking it after 3 days. Maybe thinking of trying the liquid titration to get off the final 0.125mg. He switched me over to Paxil 12.5 but I've only taken 3 pills as I can't even think about introducing another medication into the mix and I don't know what is side effects from what.
He told me to just stop the remeron, start the paxil and stop the klonopin.   Seems like an impossible task at the moment!!  I am seeing a psychologist weekly now so hope that helps. Thanks for your reply
