Obsessed With Blood Clots...HELP!
« on: March 04, 2013, 11:17:01 PM »
Hi. I'm Nicole M and I'm a college student. Very frequently I get a sharp pain in one of my upper calves and I immediately start freaking out that it's a blood clot. My anxiety always impairs me from distinguishing the real symptoms from the anxiety. Does anyone else suffer from this problem? I get panic attacks almost every day and it's unbearable. I can't swallow, I can't breathe, my body shakes, my hands turn blue, my chest hurts, I've lost so much sleep, etc.. It starts out small and just accumulates and it lasts for hours. My dad's side has suffered from high blood pressure/heart disease (my grandfather had a blood clot in his 60s) so I am SO scared!!! I feel like I can't talk to anyone about this in real life because no one in my family has Hypochondria.

I live with a chronic blood clot in my leg groin area. I have had this since 1999. It was from the groin down to the calf area originally and I was on blood thinners for two and a half years. I watch the vitamins and other things now.
My experience with blood clots can be different from others but the main thing is that blood clots in the leg most usually cuase the leg to swell and to have some reddening of the leg and also the leg will be warm. I had a hard time walking on my leg and I could barely fit my foot into a shoe that is how swollen it was.
The pining or the twinge you feel could be a nerve pinch it could be trigger points because of exercise or just muscle exhaustion. I am not saying I am an authority. I am not. What I described is what happened to me. I thought I had pulled a muscle in my back because my husband and I had lifted and carried some items into our house that were very heavy.
I was on a very low dose of bcp.
If you are concerned perhaps see a vascular doctor or your own GP. I know there are times when I still am concerned about blood clots happening. (I think once it has happened and was as large as mine was it will always be a concern). My internist understands my fears as there were also some other factors that led to my getting the clot. I have a factor with the blood.

Thanks...that feels very reassuring. I scheduled an appointment with my doctor and I am going to see them next month. So glad I'm not the only one feeling like this : )

I agree with the above posts.  If it were a  blood clot, one leg would be swollen, red, tender, warm.  You would definitely notice a difference between your two legs.

Probably a pinched nerve or maybe a slight muscle spasm.

For some reason I always think I am having a blood clot on my left side of my neck, I feel a tingling sensation.
