Hi! I'm a College Student and a Severe Hypochondriac
« on: March 04, 2013, 11:02:21 PM »
Hello everyone!

My name is Nicole M. I'm a 20-year old college student living in the metro-west area in the United States. Earlier this year I started developing anxiety symptoms out of nowhere and I was diagnosed with severe Hypochondria. None of my friends and family have this problem and I feel so lost and in pain...I get panic attacks almost every day and it's unbearable. I can't swallow, I can't breathe, my body shakes, my hands turn blue, my chest hurts, I've lost so much sleep, etc. Just one little pain in my body and I start looking up the symptoms online and freak out. When I found out about this forum I was hoping to find people I can relate to. I feel like I can't talk to anyone about this in real life, and my symptoms are starting to affect my classes. Anyone else in a similar situation?

It's nice to meet you all and I hope can get well acquainted with people here on the forum.  :action-smiley-065:

This is exactly how I started and still get. I almost failed school because of it and even now I still get terrified that I'm dying from every little thing I've looked up everything from aneurisms to brain tumors and many other things. So I would say I'm a hypochondriac as well. But trust me self diagnosis is not the best idea and as long as your doctor thinks your alright you probably are. To this day I still get it bad and everyday don't think I'm gonna wake up and I felt so alone. But you aren't no matter how much you feel no one understands what your feeling but believe me their are :) and I can guarantee you'll get through this.

So glad I'm not the only one feeling like this : ) I'm seeing a doctor in a month and they're going to do some tests. The worst symptom I have right now is this weird choking sensation - every few minutes I try to swallow and I can't; I gag slightly. It's like something is there when there isn't. Anybody ever have that before? The sensation is getting worse by the day and it's so hard to cope with.
