My problem is dealing with terminal cancer since it runs in my family at a young age. If someone told me I was going to have MS but still live to be 90, I would be ok with that. However I feel depressed and cannot even seem to enjoy my newborn baby, I feel as though I am going to leave him young and without a father.

I need help fast and my insurance is kaiser which makes it very difficult to see a mental health professional 1 on 1. They make you attend several 15-20 group class sessions before you're able to see anyone. I will demand my doc to send me to psychiatrist ASAP.

Please if anyone has recommendations for medication that help them from googling or feeling depressed because the thought of dying young is constantly on your mind. My mom passed away young and everyone forgot about her, her husband (step dad) married 4 months later after her death. Nobody ever visits her gravesite but me and still family members never acknowledge her. I know I will be in death bed wondering why I spent 10 years worrying about death and dying when I could have been doing something productive.

Hey 0278,

Talk to your doctor about antidepressants. It's hard to say which is the "right" medication for you, since everyone is different and we don't know you. Your regular doctor should have no trouble prescribing something, and you can at least get started taking something while you wait to get in with a mental health expert.

Glad you're taking proactive steps toward treating your anxiety and getting on with your life.

In case anyone is still confused:  googling your symptoms will cause you to remain in a state of extreme anxiety. Stepping away from the internet is the first step toward lasting peace.

Hi, I use to be exactly the same.  I am now on anti depressants which have helped a lot. I still Google occasionally but the anxiety doesn't control me.  I agree with Vardnas.  Talk to your doctor about which one would best suit you.

You can get medication to help anxiety issues and depression issues. But our thoughts are own. No matter what type of medication I am my thoughts are up to me. Medication may help ease part of your problem. But you may also need to work with a therapist on how to change your outlook on situations. No one medication is ever going to change how you think. That is another skill we learn. It can be done. That along with with medication may be the best road for you to go down.

Thanks for replies. It will probably weeks before I get to make an appointment. I'm also planning to quit my chronic marijuana use, it worked so well for me throughout the years with stress but obviously heightens my panic attacks when they come around 2-3 a year.

Any popular mind exercises or routines you use to stop the crazy thoughts?
