Anyone else carry stress in your legs?
« on: March 04, 2013, 07:12:56 PM »
I mean most of my symptoms, I'd say 90% seem to happen in my legs. It's a lot of the usual stuff I read on here-twitching, tingling, burning, sore muscles, heaviness, stiffness on and on. Of course not all of that at once, but it seems at any given point I've got one or two of those going on. Anywhere and everywhere on my legs, calves, thighs, shins. Pretty much all the time for about 3 months now.

It's really starting to freak me out because of course my big fear is MS and it says those symptoms would be more localized rather than anxiety which is more generalized. I feel most of this is "localized" to my legs. I do get that stuff other places to but like I said mostly on my legs.

I get some other stuff too like vision issues, dizziness, fatigue. I think all of that can be attributed to my sinus issues (at least that's what I'm telling myself today!), but I have no other explanation for this leg stuff other than my anxiety. I've been to the neuro and cardiologist to see not only about MS, but nerve compressions, disc issues, circulation issues, I've been tested for all the autoimmune stuff, vitamin/mineral levels, diabetes, thyroid, Lyme, all of that usual stuff.

I just wonder if it is anxiety why only my legs? I drink plenty of water, stretch them, stay active. I really want to loose this MS fear but the leg issues are making it so hard. Anyone else relate?

that seems to scare you.  so what do you think you take from that, in and of itself

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

I've had the same problem for a couple of months now, although I'm worried about having a blood clot, not MS. I've tried doing stretches, drinking water, etc. and it has helped some, but I still get leg problems sometimes. The doctor said that she thought they would go away when I felt better mentally (which at the rate I'm getting help is going to be a long time...) so in the meantime I'm trying to ignore them and think "Oh it's just anxiety." It almost works haha

Thanks for the responses-

Six-I do realize that anxiety will do to you what you fear most. This just seems excessive? Maybe not, I don't know. I'm just so sick of it! Then one day or for a few days it will seem to be getting better, then gets worse again. Then I get upset about it all over again!

Helpless-My first thought on it was blood clot but my doctor had me get a doppler ultrasound of both legs and everything looked fine.  And I could be wrong because I dare not research lol, but I think it would typically be in one leg and in one area. Mine is more generalized in any area and in both legs.

anxiety remember first and foremost is a LIAR... and we fall for it all of the time.

it will do what scares us most.

I had the leg weakness thing going on for well over a year .... consciously, I wasn't afraid of it being a blood clot, MS or whatever, but I sure had a hard time NOT focusing on it, thinking about what it could be.

That was a few years ago ...... never came back.  I have no clue why it chose my legs at that point in time.

My symptoms are in my legs.  I get a prickly tingly sensation in the skin of my legs.  It isn't constant but I do get it everyday and most of the day. It varies, sometimes it's in my thighs and other times it is in my calves, but never my feet.  What the heck!  I've been tested extensively and all tests have been negative, so....  I have had this before and then it went a way for a couple of years, but it is back. Too bad.  Let's hope we both get better.

I am so scared about that too...occasionally I get a weird sensation or pain in one of my upper calves and I start freaking out that it's a blood clot. I get panic attacks because of it almost every day. I must be crazy lol but I get so scared. My grandfather had one and he died of a blood clot and high blood pressure runs in the family. Glad to know I'm not the only one who gets leg discomfort. What does everyone else do not to think about it? (Or think they have to go to the ER because it's a clot)

My lower legs have been hurting for what seems like 8 months.  I've also been experiencing muscle fasciculations in my calves.  In the last week my feet have been painfully cold.  I have no other reason to believe it's more than anxiety.  So, I hear you, I empathize with you.  I don't have any tricks to forget about it other than just plowing straight ahead through life.
