Obsessing over a bump on my boyfriend's head
« on: March 04, 2013, 12:53:51 PM »
I mentioned this before, but anyway my boyfriend is 25 yrs old and has a hard, unmovable, painless bump on the back of his head, near the center.  It's a few inches up from the hairline in the back.  He's had it "as long as he can remember" and he says he's not worried about it.  He has no other symptoms of anything.  I asked his uncle (who works in the medical field but is not a doctor) to look at it.  He felt it and said it felt like a wen/cyst and it was most likely harmless, but he should still see a doctor.  I'm just seriously freaking out.  The only "bad" thing I can find woudl be bone cancer, and it seems like that would include pain and other symptoms. I was worried about lymphoma but it's not located near a lymph node.  My boyfriend also went to a doctor for a different bump on his head a year ago (that one turned out to be a pimple) and the doctor felt his current bump and didn't even mention it.  So maybe he's fine?  I can't stop worrying.

You seem to be projecting your HA onto your boyfriend. If your boyfriend isn't worried about it you need to let it go. You said a doctor felt it a year ago and didn't say anything. If the doctor thought it was something he would have pursued it. Has it changed since last year? Is your boyfriend feeling unwell?

Thanks for your reply.  He's feeling fine (has had it for a while and hasn't noticed changes).  The thing that really made me freak out is that his mom told him to have it looked at. She said "I'm not worried, but you should get it checked out."  WTF if you aren't worried then...why get it checked out?! I feel like other people ARE worried, but they're keeping it from me so I don't "freak out"

your BF is an adult.  if he has had it for "as long as he remembers," then it can't be a big issue.  Again, your bf is an adult and can deal with it as he sees fit.

whether you should worry about it or not?????  Well if my hubs has an issue, I express my concern and let him decide what he should do.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
