Amoxicillin and Klonopin
« on: March 03, 2013, 11:22:53 AM »
Hey everyone,

I have had an ear infection kicking around for a couple months but I have been so afraid to take my amoxicillin due to a few reasons

1. Afraid of taking it with my 2MG of Klonopin/day
2. Afraid of allergic reaction (took it before in my life, never had one)
3. AFRAID OF IT CAUSING INCREASED ANXIETY!

Can anyone give me any insight on any of these?

Thanks so much,

Josh

I have a weird drug fear too.

I always check the web for drug interactions. (There are none with the 2 you mentioned)  They show none with those 2 drugs.

I have never experienced increased anxiety from amoxicillin.  I have had increased anxiety from the strep throat that caused me to have to take it.

I have never heard of a late life allergy developing like you describe.  If you have taken it once before, you are ok.

Take it and get rid of the ear infection.  I got one a few years ago and let it go, thinking it would ok and go away on its own.  I waited until it was too painful to open my mouth to eat.

There are no interactions listed, afaics, Josh. Doctors are supposed to check for this before prescribing. It is one of the main reason many drugs have to be prescribed by them.

While some can have severe reactions to antibiotics, if you've had it before without problems then there is no reason why you should this time.

The infection itself is far more likely to be increasing your anxiety, than the drug would directly, although your fear of it might be causing as much. Immune reactions can trigger considerable anxiety. For example, when immune system boosters such as interferon are prescribed to treat cancers, hepatitis, etc, it is now common to also prescribe a SSRI to moderate the anxiety and depression these drugs produce (Małyszczak K, 2006). In some respects anxiety and depression are auto immune responses.
