feels like I need to cough?

Most nights I have the feeling in my chest that like I need to cough. Coughing doesn't really help and sometimes makes it worse. But I'm curious. I've heard of a cough feeling being related to heart issues? If it was indicating a irregular heart rhythm it would only be occurring while I had palps, right? My heart is totally clam and normal while it's happening and it lasts most/all night.

I do have heart burn/acid reflux and was on medication for asthma when I was younger but it hasn't bothered me since I was 12 or so. And I don't have my usual heart burn pains while this is happening?

Hi. It doesn't sound like there is a problem with your heart. I get that feeling sometimes too, normally because I worry about my lungs thinking I could be getting a chest infection etc. But then it could be my anxiety. Try to think back to when you first started coughing, then see if you can remember what you thought about right before it happened. If you can find the trigger you might be able to solve this problem.

I agree it could be an anxiety issues, however I don't usually cough at all. If I do it's not involuntary  like a 'real' cough and just me trying to clear the feeling away. It's a tickle or scratching feeling, like I NEED to cough. If it was much worse I would probably be coughing my lungs up but it never reaches over into actually causing me coughing fits or anything of the sort.

It doesn't seem to have a trigger as far as I know. It happens every night, all night, almost without fail. Sometimes my chest will also feel warm. I'm wondering if it's not related to my heartburn/acid reflux even if there is no pain. Because I'd think if my heart was acting up every night for the last two weeks, I'd have something to show for it by now.
