head trauma.
« on: March 03, 2013, 12:59:17 AM »
Hypochondria has been a problem of mine for as long as I can remember. It has simply gotten more severe with age. I just feel like every bump or bruise is more serious than it is. I was just climbing over my bed and hit my head on my light which is fixed to the ceiling. With one dull rounded edged screw which holds the ceramic covering up. It was a pretty rough hit, and my first thought is bleeding and or trauma to the brain. I can't find any blood, so of course my conclusion is that I'm bleeding internally, not externally. I'm trying to control my panicked thoughts, but I'm not doing a very good job..

You aren't the first person on these boards to worry about this. If you do a search about bleeding on the brain on this site, you will find some good responses. Our skulls are  really hard. A simple thump on the head from banging into a screw, while it may feel awful, isn't actually a  serious trauma. Do you have a bump or any soreness? I have "survived" several brain bleeds. Most recently I wacked my head on  the car door frame. It hurt, no lump though. That was six or eight weeks ago. Brain bleeding entered my mind, of course.  It didn't happen. Try to relax.

Oregancoastlady is right.  Our skulls are designed to protect us from everyday blows like you describe.  Also what you describe is a bump on the head.  Not trauma.  If your were disoriented, dizzy or unconscious, that would get into the are of "trauma".  If you decided to go now to the ER, they wouldn't even check you for that, as there would be no reason to.
