Tooth infection fear
« on: March 02, 2013, 10:30:22 PM »
I've been doing so well for the last few months that I thought I was really pulling out of my health anxiety. Unfortunately, a few days ago I noticed that a molar was hurting very slightly, and just to be safe I went to the dentist today. Turns out there was a crack in the tooth, and below the crack it was decaying. I'm shocked that this was the case, as the pain wasn't all that bad at all. The dentist fixed the tooth, but now I'm terrified that my other toothaches are the same thing (the dentist didn't look at my whole mouth, just the tooth that was hurting). I haven't taken very good care of my teeth, and I often get toothaches that come and go. I'm petrified that one of them is going to get infected, which I've heard can be fatal quickly if swelling starts. My next cleaning is in June, which seems like such a long way off, especially when I'm still having toothaches.

Agh... I'm rambling. Just in a bad place, one I thought I'd pulled out of  :(

The tooth that was filled still hurts today, and I saw last night that the gum around it is a deep red, almost like a scab, on both sides. Today it's spread a little, and the dentist's office is closed until tomorrow. Aghh. Trying not to panic, but it's difficult.

I can relate to you because I've been havig so much trouble with my teeth this past year. I currently have a couple of infected ones and swollen glands and stuff and i'm havig surgery Tuesday to get them removed. Te past 2 months have been torture with worrying and stress. I can say if you had a bad enough infection that it would be unbearable pain. You would have time to know of there was any danger. June does seem like forever away, especially if you're worrying about it. My advice would be to  try to see another dentist before then, just to get everything checked out, or maybe call your dentist and tell them you're worried and would like to be seen sooner than June. I hope everything works out great for you! Good luck
