My mouth is killing me
« on: March 02, 2013, 03:17:07 PM »
Not sure why it`s all about my mouth these days, well I guess because that`s where all my weird symptoms are these days. it`s been a year like this, oral C fear, bad teeth, weird pains, tastes, throat symptoms, problems with swallowing etc

Now it`s about my teeth. The problem is I don`t know if I have dental pain or some tension around my neck, face, jaw....or something else. I`m so obsessed about these issues, I spend most of the day thinking about my mouth. I`m seriously getting exhausted here  :(

I think my question is, can anxiety/tension cause weird tooth pain like symptoms?? I`m having it all the time now (on and off usually)......having all kinds of pressures, and pains in my jaw (more the other side), sometimes feels like having a "itchy" teeth. sometimes like now it feels like a toothache......I just have no idea what tooth it might be. sometimes it`s backtooth, sometimes one in the middle.......DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!

and this mostly happens on weekends. why? because there are no dentist to go if I get severe pain. so now I`m scared to get tooth pain from hell, and counting hours till monday morning. last weekend was the same.

Once again I stopped eating  :sick0002: too scared to eat. I`m obsessed.

The tell tale sign that this is anxiety is by how vague your symptoms seem to be. They are all over the place and in no specific area. When you have a toothache, you have a toothache. You can tell what tooth it is and it feels like a toothache. Not itch, pressure, etc but a distinct ache in one tooth.

Anxiety on its own can not cause a toothache but it can cause a weird and annoying sensation around the area you are obsessing over and that seems to be what your describing.

Also, a real tooth ache does not take breaks during the week and returns with a vengeance one the weekends.

My friend had similar issues that you have and his symptoms were caused by
TMJ, stress and the like.

Interesting about your comment about this happening on the weekend .... when docs aren't available.  My anxiety tends to ramp up on weekends, too ..... sure, the ER is available, but that costs alot more money! LOL  Funny how our minds work.

I do have some symptoms every day (for couple of months now maybe), but it`s full on on weekends. Hey, maybe just bad luck  :sick0002:

"TMJ"

yes, could be

"They are all over the place and in no specific area. When you have a toothache, you have a toothache. You can tell what tooth it is and it feels like a toothache. Not itch, pressure, etc but a distinct ache in one tooth. "

yeah! it`s located my left side, lower jaw.....thats where the stuff happens. AND, I have no symptoms much when I wake up, even after a short nap symptoms seem to be gone.....for 10 minutes. And this specific set of symptoms I`m complaining this time, had a 2-3 weeks break between. first time it started after eating and some stuff getting stuck between teeth, noticed having a huge hole there, symptoms, finally had balls to visit a dentist(last time 10 years ago), tons of work to do (maybe even couple teeth pulled out, lets see).

so, many worries. It all started about year ago noticing weird thing in my mouth (still there of course, wont go away), oral C fear.  later realising I have bad teeth and should do something about it. afraid of getting serious tooth pain etc etc etc. OBSESSED!

I had a root canal done a number of years ago and the tooth was way in the back and they
leaned the chair so far back that I felt like an astronaut. I thought my stomach was going to go in
my throat and I tried to keep my composure the best that I could. The dentist specialist kept asking me
if I am OK, I guess because my face must have lost all of its color.

"I had a root canal done a number of years ago and the tooth was way in the back and they

that`s the number 1 problem for me with going to dentist. I mean it makes me so dizzy, room starts to spin etc, and cannot escape!

Ok, this sensation is driving me nuts. It`s like I have 1 too many tooth in my mouth or something. "itchy pressure" in lower jaw, another side. aaarrrggghh!!!! feels so annoying. I want one tooth to get pulled out, just have no idea which one. last tooth there is a cavity, but the pressure feels more in front teeth, and there should not be much wrong going on. feels like having food stuck between every tooth or something. more I brush, mouthwash the worse it gets. gum infection? + my jaw and cheek muscles are twitching.

I DO NOT GET WHAT THE HELL THIS THING IS.

Hi,

I had some teeth issues/problems this autumn and winter, so hopefully I' ll be able to offer some advise. First of all, unfortunately I must disagree with one of the previous posters, who mentioned that when it is toothache - you feel it in one certain tooth and know perfectly well what it is. I had 2 teeth extracted recently, both were bad enough to hurt, but in both cases pains were not in these teeth at all. In one case pain travelled all around one side og my face (even into ear), but tooth itself had never hurt. It was a pulpitis in wisdom tooth. After that I was sure I had sinusitis - there was extreme pressure in my sinuses. No way - it appeared to be one upper tooth was cracked a bit. It never hurt too. So, with bad teeth anything on you face can hurt  :winking0008:
But it mustn't even be the tooth. After many visits to dentists my jaw muscles got sore from keeping mouth open all the time. Due to that my teeth had hurt too - muscle pain radiated to teeth. I alos had the feeling that there are too many teeth in my mouth.
So I bet it is either a bad tooth or 2, which could be acting up, or you've strained your muscles from anxiously tensing your jaw.  I would never believe this is possible - but I had it myself!
Don't worry, it is nothing major ans serious. But visit to a dentist would be a reasonable thing, to check for cavities.

Hi Miika...I've had the mouth worries over the last few months, as well. It's what finally brought me to this forum after a year of reading the posts.

It's funny you mention "itchy teeth".  I'm not sure if this is the same as me, but I've had a similar sensation recently. I was waking up with sore teeth in various places. It felt the same as when I had my braces on many years ago. It wasn't exactly painful, but the discomfort could be somewhat described as an "itchy" sensation. It was kind of a raw feeling, and almost as if some of my teeth were loose.

I realized that I was clenching my teeth as I slept, causing the soreness. This irritated the periodontal ligament, which holds our teeth to the bone. As for the looseness, I learned that our teeth actually have a little flexibility on a microscopic level, due to this ligament of the teeth. Clenching and grinding (due to my anxiety problem) made this "loose" and "itchy" feeling worse.

I've had too many other symptoms, fears, and worries to list in this post. However, one thing I have learned, is that the more I search my mouth and throat, especially with a flashlight, the more "abnormalities" I will find. I got checked out by an ENT and a dentist, and they agreed that the health of my mouth was "within normal limits", as they put it. So I've chalked up my mouth worries to anxiety, and am working on giving it less attention.

thank you again for answers. Good to know I`m not alone with these issues.

For now, till next dentist visit (6 weeks to go), I`ll beat this fucker by myself. few months ago I got antibiotics prescription to sinus infection, which I never took.....just started taking them, so if there is any serious infection going on anywhere in my mouth, byebye. And my wife put some temporary stuff to fix tooth from pharmacy, to the one having a cavity (third tooth she has "fixed" for me). already feeling a little better. No idea idea if it will help really, but at least theres something to cover the hole.

So I visited ER dentist today (or whatever called). She did nothing. yeah cavities, but nothing visible bad going on(said my wife has done great job with fixing my teeth). The problem was, I cannot say what tooth it is thats bothering. And of course when I went there, no pain anywhere. so it was more talking about my fears and stuff, thats good. I think I`m getting rid of my dentist fear. thats good too. She looked my oral "cancer" too, "does not look like C", BUT thought maybe it would be better to take biopsy in a future  :( I almost fainted. SO IT IS CANCER! 3 dentists have said now this, does not look like C. but hey, theres still a chance!

So now I have to wait until pain gets so bad I know what tooth it is, and then go back. And of course it`s weekend hell again....pain pain pain......HELL.
