It still doesn't make sense to me cause going through this is not easy, don't know why we would re-route the worry to something that makes us think we are going crazy.

It actually makes a lot of sense to me for similiar reasons to what six just said...she said:

Quote
it is easier to have a disease and let a "doctor take care of everything"

I would take that a couple of steps further in the case of those obsessing over MS or ALS. Think about it....those two diseases can COMPLETELY debilitate you so that EVERYONE ELSE has to take care of EVERYTHING. Not just the doctor....EVERYONE has to be responsible for your well being.

Man, I just had a HUGE lightbulb go off about why I may be doing this. :sign0184:

it is just like my headache that came back after I was volunteering at a dog rescue last year...   I posted that to you when most of the text was bolded.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

:action-smiley-065:....I know the feeling. I Ride a Mountain Bike about 12 miles a day, and when I went through my MS/ALS fear last month, my mom (who has had GAD ALL HER LIFE) was like...SERIOUSLY? You just rode 12 miles not even 5 hours ago...and now you have ALS?

I could be wrong about this and maybe someone else would be more knowledgable. During the height of my MS scare I remember reading that they check brain and cervical spine for MS, but it would typically be in your brain if it was in your spine. Does that make sense?

On the note of that patient being told it was just anxiety and ended up having MS, was this after any testing was done as you have had? I doubt anxiety was misdiagnosed after the kind of testing you have had (MRI, clean neuro exam I assume).

Great news! Now it is time to start dealing with your anxiety so that symptoms you might experience just by virtue of being alive, won't be so upsetting in the future.
