Worried about heart infection. Urgent question
« on: March 02, 2013, 11:00:59 AM »
You may have read my other post about my decaying tooth. They caused swollen glands, swollen tonsils, and pain in my neck. These symptoms have been present sice February 1st. I'm currently on antibiotics (amoxicillian) and have been for 5 days so far, 5 more days to take them. I don't mean to sound paranoid with all these posts, but I truly am scared. I've heard that teeth infection can cause infection in the heart if not treated in time. I worry that I let this infection go way too long to be held under control. My surgery is in 3 days.

So I have a couple of serious questions and please give me honest answers regardless of how irrational you may think i'm being.
1.) is it possible because I waited almost a month before taking antibiotics, the  could be too far gone to be fixed?
2.) if no to the first question, will the antibiotics keep this infection under control until I can get these teeth out. Meaning, will the infection stay where it is and not spread to my brain or heart as long as i'm taking my antibiotics?
3.) is there any possibility he infection is already in my heart or my brain or that's what could happen soon?
4.) when I do have them removed, could e infection present spread to those areas? Even though I've been on antibiotics?
And last, 5.) if I am for some reason totally wrong, and these symptoms aren't from my teeth, is it too dangerous to have surgery? (I don't have problems breathing wih my tonsils swollen thy are just a little swollen)

Thank you so much for reading all of this am participating with me

You have to keep in mind that they won't let you walk out if they suspect its something serious. And if they thought There was a good chance it could turn serious then you would have a hospital stay until they determine its safe for you to go home.

And to your questions about the antibiotics. They would contain the infection and kill it at the same time. That's a powerful no BS treatment for an infection.

I really hope you can relax and find some peace because all that stress from being worried all the time is no good for your mind or body. Everything will be just fine.

Thanks, that's what I keep telling myself. I'm still just kind of worried because the doctor didnt know I had an infected tooth and during the time I went to the doctor, my symptoms had only been present for one week. Then when I went to the dentist almost a whole month later, they didn't know I have had these symptoms for as long as I have. So it just worries me that it's something that hasn't been noticed by them. Although they did take xrays so i'm hoping a severe infection would have shown up on that. Also hoping you're right about the antibiotics taking care of any infection. 3 more days til surgery, just gotta wait this out. On a whole other note, I'm also afraid of being put to sleep, always had that fear of not waking up. I know tht sounds SUPER irrational and I am just thankful to finally get these teeth out and super ready for my surgery but there's still that fear of the surgery itself. So ready for this to be over!

I've been on antibiotics for 7 days now and my throat looks about the same. Today my ear (like the inner part of it that you can almost feel in your throat?) and the side of my throat where the war is, is itching so bad. My glands are also still hurting. I'm so ready to get these out Tuesday but i'm also afraid the infection will spread to my brain, heart or blood when the teeth are extracted. Any opinions on that anyone?

My opinion is that you're thinking about this WAY too much, and that coming on here and asking for our opinion is just helping to feed your anxiety. No one on here is going to tell you you're in danger of getting a brain/heart/blood infection (because you're not), so all this reassurance-seeking is doing you no good in the long run.

In case anyone is still confused:  googling your symptoms will cause you to remain in a state of extreme anxiety. Stepping away from the internet is the first step toward lasting peace.

I just turn here because my family and boyfriend are all I have to talk to and they all get mad at me when I bring this up. I really am terrified, anxiety problem or not. Tooth infections are serious and mine has already spread to my tonsils and glands and i'm so scared it will spread to my Brian or heart next. The antibiotics aren't helping

The human body is far stronger then your giving it credit for :winking0008:. Your infection will not spread to your heart or your brain. The antibiotics & your immune system will prevent this. Any infection can spread to other areas sure but rarely this occurs in healthy people. Please have faith in your bodies ability to heal & don't google symptoms. The internet is habitual for suggesting worse case scenarios  :happy0151:

Keep posting if it helps you & once you feel better you will have gained faith

Thank you. I'm trying really hard to believe that and I do agree with you. I also just prayed about it and i'm feeling a little less worried. I had a good talk with my sister who has talked me down from panicking like I was earlier. I do have a a headache now which is scaring me. Only one more day til surgery. I'm just scare te infection is too far to be fixed now. It's terrifying. I'm also pretty scared tht once they are taken out that the infection will spread more. I'm so ready to be done with this, on my way home from the dentist on Tuesday afternoon. I'm so excited just thinking about this being over.

I remember a neurologist reminding me that headaches are rarely a symptom of brain disease. The more likely cause is stress from worrying. Try relax and if symptoms come & go its just anxiety. This ordeal will be over for you soon so yes get excited about feeling better & then post how great you feel so we can share your joy  :party0002:

On a side note- will my symtpoms (swollen tonsils, swollen glands, ear pain) make being out to sleep more dangerous?

I had a friend of mine last year (37) and he had infections in his teeth and gums and needed
to have one or two teeth removed (can't remember how many). He was on antibiotics for some time
until his teeth were removed. His dentist told him the infection had to be gone before anything was
removed and he had no issues.

I've heard that too. I think it's because if there's a bad infection then he tooth won't numb good at all and it would be harder to pull. Also because the infection could spread. I've almost finished my course of antibiotics though so i'm hoping its okay to have then taken out. Especially if it really is my teeth causing all these synonymous, cause they aren't going to go away until they are taken out. I'm scared that its dangerous to be put to sleep with a sinus it ear infection. However last year when my sister was put to sleep to have hers removed, she had a sinus infection caused by her teeth and they did it anyways. So hopefully its okay.

My daughters friend a number of years ago had a spinal fusion performed and she had a
102 degree temperature and the surgery was performed anyway with no complications. I
would not worry.

Okay, that does make me feel better. I mean I have been on antibiotics for 8 days now so hopefully it's under control by now. Although my ears are still hurting and tonsils still swollen. All i'm afraid of is it spreading fast if I do have an ear infection while I get them taken out
