Looks like it WASN'T all in my head :p
« on: March 02, 2013, 02:24:11 AM »
This is a short post because I'm typing on a phone at my local hospital. My inflammed appendix - the source of all my so-called anxiety pains - is no more after a particularly nasty bout of pain yesterday, and I've just been reading the papers to take my mind off the usual chest discomfort patients get after surgery. Big mistake. I saw an article about a boy who.died a good while after having his own appendix removed because the site where the surgery took place scarred, twisted and burst. What are the odds of this happening to me? :(

Appendectomies are done all the time and this rare case of someone dying is just that very rare. You'll be fine. Rest up and get well, sorry to hear about your appendicitis but hopefully now you'll feel a lot better :)

The chances of anything happening are extremely remote. I would not worry and get better soon.

both my aunt, grandma, and cousin all had theirs removed, and nothing has happened to any of them, it seems like such a common surgery that the odds of it going wrong or there being anything wrong after should be slim to none, :) hope you feel better soon!

Curious, did you end up having the classic appendix pains on the lower right side of your abdomen?

I just had mine out last January. I was 44. I am probably one of the oldest ones to have their appendix out. LOL. I had it done laparoscopically. Went home same day. I had a c-section before and was expecting that level of pain. It was nowhere near that. Just sore. Rest, rest and rest. And don't lift anything heavy. You will be fine.

That's right, it was far too inflamed to have keyhole surgery so it was taken out of an open incision.
