My pill, sinus, brain tumour? Any advice?
« on: March 01, 2013, 09:29:39 PM »
Hi everyone

I've been looking around here fora while but this is my first post and I thought I'd reach out for help after being stuck in my own head for so long.

For the past 6 months or so I've been feeling...odd. Sort of dazed, having a LOT of trouble remembering things (I'm in my mid 20s), derealisation etc. the thing is, that the symptoms especially derealisation seem to get worse when I am a week or two from my periods.

I've also been feeling pressure behind my eyes, one eye in particular that has been making my vision in that eye a little blurry when I work out with resistance training (climbing etc).

And I have had a very persistent pain/burning sensation in one particular point on my head which is a little scary because its ALWAYS the same spot on the top right of my head about two inches in diameter. Sometimes the headache spreads down to the eye which is blurry and the top of my forehead, along the side of my nose which makes me think sinus. But a lot of the time it's only in that one spot... And I second guess cause I'm an idiot - scaring myself for probably no reason.

That spot on the top of my head also twinges more when I move my head a certain way, take a heavy step or nod too hard...

I figure I'm PROBABLY ok because it's been so long and I can still climb etc with no motor/strength issues, and I don't have any other symptoms that are noticeable. But you guys know how it is... Health anxiety sucks...What if I'm not ok and by ignoring it I'm going to let something get worse that could be fixed now?

I don't know what to think... What could it be?  Should I be worried?

I had symptoms sort of like that for awhile.  I had a sharp pain in the upper right of my head in one spot generally, although it could move.  I'd also had pain behind my right eye when it would happen.  I also had trouble remembering things too...although no blurry vision.  But I immediately thought it was a brain tumor.  So I went to the doctors about it, and they did a neurological test on me, and all that and said if I had a brain tumor or something like that, I wouldn't have been able to complete the tests.  But, I'm gonna bet you'll be fine...but as you said health anxiety sucks.

Thanks Caribou

It's a real pain in the butt. I keep thinking 'I'm fine, the odds of getting a brain tumour are really slim' but when everything persists for so long it plants that horrible little seed of doubt we all know so well.

It's difficult because I refuse to search on the net about this and I don't want to run to the doctor about everything anymore. I'm determined to give my HA a real kick in the face this year and finally move towards beating it for good. I've been living this way for too long

I'm going to try and hold off for a bit longer to see if anything gets worse, but I wonder how many symptoms are hanging around because they're real, and how many are in my head... How do you tell the difference?

I cannot tell you how many diseases or conditions I have thought I had in the past.  Right now I actually think I have either leukemia or hodgkin's lymphoma because I'm constantly checking my body for signs and symptoms...although everyone, including my doctor who did routine blood work on me said I'm fine, but I'm still convinced.  And I was always scared I had a disease because my symptoms would hang around for so long too.

Like I thought that since they weren't going away, then I must have something.  But, I was told that your mind is a very powerful thing.  It can easily manipulate your body into causing actual physical symptoms which causes even more anxiety...it is literally a domino effect.  But, I have always found out that the symptoms tend to be much more profound the more you think about it.  And I've always been able to tell the difference between what's real and not, is if the symptoms have been around for so long, that if it was something serious, then it would have likely caused a very severe outcome - like death.  But I was always told everything was in my head...I'm just scared that there will be that one time when I don't pay attention, it will be something serious.

And usually, a brain tumor will cause very obvious and severe symptoms, and they would likely get much, much worse over 6 months...but I'm not a doctor.  Although I thought I had a brain tumor too

Hmmm... So I was doing pretty well I thought. But now I'm having even more problems with my memory. Ive been going around in a weird daze the past few days, but I've been forgetting stuff just after it happens. I filled my water bottle at work and then completely forgot that I'd even filled it up. I looked at it I was like ...I really can't remember filling that...like not even taking it out to the fountain.

I'm starting to think its time to see a doctor... Surely this can't be normal?

Oh I can't tell you how many things I have forgotten.  In fact here's an example...I check my 0278 email every single day, so naturally I should know the email address and password by heart.  Well one day I typed in my email address, and not even kidding here, I could not for the life of me remember the password.  I check it every single day, but I could not remember my password for the life of me.  So when I went to change it, I changed my password exactly to my email address so I wouldn't forget it since I typed it in once.  But like I have said before, seeing a doctor is your most effective way at getting a diagnosis.  But some of the symptoms of a tumor are really severe...although I don't think I need to explain them.  I'm just saying I've had my fair share of those moments.
