just started cymbalta, anxious about retina
« on: March 01, 2013, 05:31:32 PM »
Ok, so i just started cymbalta a week ago added to prozac for panic attacks/anxiety/depression.  I'm feeling pretty good with it, but I started reading about side effects and one appears to be possible retina detachment (rare).  Eye problems are a real anxiety trigger for me, so NOW i'm worried about this with this new medication.  Any words of reassurance?

Did you know that if 1 (one) person gets a side effect from a medication, they are required to include it in the side effects warning? When they say rare, they mean it. If you are really frightened about it, ask your prescribing doctor. He/she can probably explain more about it to ease your fears.

Did Prozac stop working?

The drug companies will report any adverse event that occurs during drug trials, irrespective of whether they believe the drug was responsible or not. This way if it happens to someone else their liability may be reduced. You'd probably be much more likely to have your eyesight damaged in an auto accident while driving to the pharmacy to refill the Cymbalta prescription, than from the drug itself.

NOTE: I'm not a doctor, and particularly not yours, so there may be factors I'm unaware of. Therefore all advice is of a general nature and you should consult your doctor before following any of it, especially before changing med doses.

thanks for the reassurance.  i know it is absurd to worry.  i should stop googling. lol.  the prozac was still working, but i also have endometriosis and my anxiety increases around my cycle, so the doc thought that cymbalta would help with the endo pain as well as help with my increased panic feelings.
