Severe anxiety attacks please help.
« on: March 01, 2013, 05:09:35 PM »
Hi people

For a number of years on and off I have experienced bad anxiety attacks, these were triggered in 2007 when I was about 21-22 years old after a couple of years being harrassed by a neighbour.

Before then I had never had a panic attack or severe anxiety.

I had a lot of trouble with this neighbour up until the end of 2011 when I finally moved out. Then my anxiety kind of went away and now I have another nuisance neighbour above me (talk about bad luck!!) and now my symptoms have come back again - feeling cold, shaking, shortness of breath to the point of going dizzy, awful panic feeling, lack of appetite....... after these attacks I get awful back ache I guess after tensing up.  :( and feeling really tired too.

I haven't been to the doctors about these attacks, I know I should have done by now as it has gone on for a long while on and off. Should I go to the doctors about it? and will I get any calming drugs? if so do they work?

Any tips on how to control the impact of these attacks when they happen would be appreciated too.  :)

Thanks, Gary.

Hey, Gary  :action-smiley-065:

Sorry to hear your neighbor is throwing you into a tizzy! Yes - let the doc know what's going on. They'll prolly prescribe you something to help. I decided to opt out of the meds, so I don't know first hand how helpful they are, but I do have friends who have had success with them.

What has helped me is learning the technical stuff about anxiety (like how adrenaline heightens your senses - it makes you freak out about feelings in your body that you normally ignore), chamomile twice a day, journaling, and exercise!

Exercise helps me a lot. I notice if I eat poorly and do not exercise, my mind is a wreck. I believe it helps a lot.

I reach out on this board when its bad too; knowing I'm not alone helps so much.

Therapy? That has helped me in the past too.

I hope it becomes more manageable for you. :)
