How to cope with chronic nausea resulting from anxiety?
« on: March 01, 2013, 12:48:40 PM »
Even when I don't feel particularly anxious, I have near-constant nausea. When it goes away, I'm able to cope, but when I'm nauseous I can't focus on anything. The only thing that makes me feel better is laying down and closing my eyes. I've had all the tests (abdominal CT scan, EGD, colonoscopy) and all were normal except for having GERD. I have to really force myself to eat, and I'm afraid to go anywhere or do anything. Deep breathing only helps a little bit. Does anyone have any advice?

Wow, this is EXACTLY my situation.  I wish I could help you.  Emetrol, ginger ale and peppermint have all helped my nausea some, but I haven't found anything resembling a cure.

I hate to sound obvious, but I think the solution is to treat your anxiety. Symptoms lessen as we work to reduce our reactive fears. Continuing to fear your nausea and what it might mean (other than it being a symptom of anxiety) is only making things worse for you. Treating the anxiety is no walk in the park, but it is THE ONLY effective method of symptom reduction.

In case anyone is still confused:  googling your symptoms will cause you to remain in a state of extreme anxiety. Stepping away from the internet is the first step toward lasting peace.
