Mouth
« on: March 01, 2013, 07:51:43 AM »
Hi

Can anyone help with this?

I've been on an anxiety rollercoaster for couple of months now.

This is what happened last night:

I ate a curry and when I was finished I happened to rub my tongue against the inside of my cheek as felt a raised patched. It was noticeably raised. I panicked and looked in mirror but could see much but defo felt a big difference.

I took an anti histamine and went to bed praying it would go away. I did go right down. Today when I feel there is not much difference in either side. Now in the daylight I looked inside my cheek and there is still a little bit of redness. The other side doesn't have it.

What is this? Oc? Should I be worried?

I was at two dentist a couple of weeks ago for full check up and all ok except needing fillings.

I feel my anxiety is so bad just now I'm my mind is on the hunt viewin everything as something scary.

Please what do you think? I'm trying not to rush to the dentist and wait and see.

Thanks Marc. I've never noticed it before. How long after does it take to completely go away? It's not raised the way it was last might but definitely still a bit red.

Funny you saying that as I have really bad acid reflux as in last couple of weeks of preg. The gp prescribed ranitidine and the dose isn't even touching it at the moment.

It's definitely got better since last night so I'm thinking on that basis it can't be anything bad? Right?

Plus given my two dental app for  check ups the other week....

I agree with you; it sounds like nothing serious to me.

I've been out and not been able to check without looking like a weirdo!! So anyway just checked there and all that's there now is two tiny pinprick red dots. So it appears to have been a reaction or trauma caused it. Fx they disappear soon!

Thanks Marc.

I remember once a number of years ago, I ate some pizza and my stomach was acting up and I
got a huge ulcer in my mouth and it really hurt and throbbed. It lasted for around two weeks or so and
finally went away.

I used to chew tobacco and always got worried when I saw a patch on my inner cheek. Lots of things can cause it but I think you have a valid culprit with acid reflux.

Thanks. This might be obvious, but how the heck can acid reflux cause irritation inside the cheek? I read it can be a cause, just don't know how if the acid doesn't come into the mouth? It's just the burning up the throat and in my back. It's pregnancy related for me!

My GI physician said that when you have reflux, some acid leaks up into your mouth and
can cause mouth irritation, even if the leakage is minimal.

I hope this isn't daft, but could it be a burn from hot food? Not spicy, but temperature wise - I know that I get a big old blister if I burn my mouth!
