CBC slightly elevated eosinophil count
« on: February 28, 2013, 06:19:23 PM »
Does anybody know what this means? I just got a call saying everything on my CBC came out normal except for a "slighty elevated eosinophil count, which is usually due to allergies". They said no further testing is needed.

What is this? Has anyone else experienced this? And I don't even have allergies!

Are you sure you don't have allergies?  I didn't know I had them until I wound up in urgent care with an inner ear infection. The doc took one look inside my nose and said, "Did you know you have bad allergies?" No idea.

Same happened to me. I live in an area with one of the worst air qualities in the country and have had 2 providers tell me I have them just by examining me. Didn't know, and don't really have symptoms of allergies to speak of. You could totally have them!

Whew, thank you both! Now that I think of it, I remember my eye doctor saying to me about a month ago that my eyes looked like I had allergies - but I thought he was nuts because I've never noticed it before.

I googled eosinophil (just to see what it was!) and OF COURSE one of the first results that came up was "cancer". Uuuggghhhh!

I know this one!

My daughter had the same thing as a baby and it was definitely allergies.  She went through a complete battery of tests to check her immune system after she developed a super rare illness at 5 months old.  She is now 11 and perfectly healthy but she does have an allergy to milk.

I promise you it's nothing serious at all.

I had the same thing on a recent CBC.  The doctor didn't even mention it to me, so I figure it's probably not a big deal.  It was only slightly elevated.  I googled it too, and I figure if it was cancer it would be more than slightly elevated.
