Why is having a fever so scary to me??!?!
« on: February 28, 2013, 06:12:40 PM »
My daughter has been sick for almost 3 weeks now....started with scarlet fever, and now I'm honestly not sure what she's got.  I've taken her to 3 different doctors, and been told something different by each of them.  One said asthma, one said pneumonia, and the newest diagnosis is bronchiolitis.  Needless to say, she's had a fever almost constant for the past 3 weeks (well, I mean I've been treating it, but it's there).

Now, starting yesterday I haven't been feeling well.  Started with a sore throat and sinus issues.  Stuffy, runny nose, congested feeling.  Today was pretty much the same until the last couple hours things have changed.  I've developed a fever (100.0 degrees), and all over body aches.  I especially notice a lot of aching in my face, it feels like it's right above my teeth (not sure if this would be my sinuses, or maybe I have a problem with my teeth).  But having a fever worries me.  I'm afraid it's because of something serious going on in my body, nevermind the fact that I have all these cold symptoms to go along with it.

Fever to me always has to mean something bad.  Someone talk me down please.

You actually gave the best case for why your fever is nothing to worry about. Your daughter is dealing with some beastly virus and you finally got it. It comes with a fever, like most beastly viruses.  So now you have to try to rest and drink lots of liquids.

Remember - fever is the body's way of fighting infection. It's not a bad thing, really... it's just heating you up to get the bad stuff out. If it gets too high or goes on too long, you need to get it checked out. But I don't think a doctor would even take you seriously right now... he'd say, "You've got the flu. Get some rest and come see me in 2 weeks if you're not better."

So, I'm still having body aches, and I feel like I have a fever, I keep getting sweaty, and feel like I'm burning, but I took my temp, and it only came up 98.2.  Can anyone explain this to me?!?
