Switching from remeron to Paxil cr ...very nervous!
« on: February 28, 2013, 01:03:22 PM »
I've been taking remeron 30mg for 5 weeks now decreasing the dose to 15 for the last couple of days. I also take Klonopin for the terrible anxiety and panic. I feel like the remeron is doing nothing just bad side effects so I saw my doc today and he switched me to Paxil cr. I Asked him if I need to taper the remeron and he said no. This made me suspicious as I thought all AD had to be tapered off. Maybe it's because I'm switching to another med?? Has anyone had experience going from remeron to Paxil?

No the only antidepressants you need to discontinue are the MAOIs, usually with a 2-4 week washout before standing another antidepressant. SSRI's can usually be switched overnight to an equivalent dose. With ADs like Remeron, the usual practice is to taper off them while tapering onto the new antidepressant. There would also be many thousands of people on SSRIs who also take 5-15mg of Remeron as a sleep aid most nights.

So i took my first paxil yesterday and took no remeron last night. I awoke in the night with terrible painful pins and needles down both my legs, I had to jump out of bed and walk around. It felt like I was walking on exposed nerves...awful. I ended up taking my full dose of 30mg of remeron and a knlonopin 0.125mg. I finally went back to sleep after an hour. Now I don't know what to do. I need to come off klonopin and remeron, and I don't know if it was the paxil causeing this terrible symptom or from stopping the remeron C/T  (my doc said I didn't need to taper).
Any imput or suggestions would be appreciated :sprachlos020:

Don't take both of them tonight to see what happens. I suspect it was a reaction to discontinuing Remeron.
