Leukemia panic again!
« on: February 28, 2013, 09:58:22 AM »
Hello everyone, I was just wondering how much you bruise when you have leukemia. I have this fear that I have leukemia. I found a bruise on my right leg the other day and then I looked on my calf and saw what looked like a yellow type of blemish almost. Anyway I did go to the doctors 3 weeks ago for a different reason and they did a CBC. White blood cell count was normal along with red blood cell. Here were the results:
WBC Count - 7.2 (4.0-10.5)
RBC Count - 4.65 (4.60-6.20)
Hemoglobin - 14.0 (14.0-18.0)
Hematocrit - 42.0 (40.0-54.0)
MCV - 90.3 (80.0-100.0)
MCH - 30.1 (27.0-32.0)
MCHC - 33.3 (32.0-36.0)
RDW - 12.2 (11.5-16.0)
Platelet Count - 230 (150-450)
MPV - 10.6* (7.4-10.4)
Neutrophil - 62.2 (43.0-71.0)
Lymphocyte - 25.7 (25.0-33.0)
Monocyte - 9.8* (5.0-9.0)
Eosinophil - 1.9 (0.0-5.0)
Basophil - 0.4 (0.0-2.0)
Absolute Neutrophil Count - 4478 (1700-7500)
Absolute Lymphocyte Count - 1850 (1000-3500)
Absolute Monocyte Count - 706 (200-900)
Absolute Eosinophil Count - 137 (0-500)
Absolute Basophil Count - 29 (<240)
I'm worried that this is the start of leukemia. I did hit my leg where the bruise is, but there was a small blemish like bruise there before but it was much smaller. Anyway, I did have a cough and that has since gone away, my weight has remained pretty normal, but I do have some leg pain. I did tell the doctor about that and he wasn't concerned about it at all. I don't have a fever or anything at all. But the blood tests were taken 3 weeks ago and I'm just worried that they have changed since then.
How much and how fast do you bruise with leukemia? Also what do you feel like when you have it? I also have some on and off again lower right back pain...sometimes I also feel tired during the day, but just only slightly and then it goes away.

I'm sorry about my posting but no one thinks anything is really wrong with me...I guess this is kind of like an update.

your labs look great. If dr said they were good, no worries, no leukemia!

Your platelets are fine. They would be much, much lower in leukemia. I have had a lot of leukemia fears but honestly, the more we think about bruises the more we notice them. Your labs show you do not have leukemia. Embrace that and move forward.

Caribou,
First, I'm surprised at the fact that you even have this. (The CBC results)  How many among us would really know how to interpret it??

It's scary that you say "but no one thinks anything is wrong with me", almost like you want someone to say yes, you're sick.

Please take your Dr's word that you do not have Leukemia and get into therapy to help your terrible anxiety. I'm sorry you feel like this and I know the fear is real to you, but you aren't sick.

I'm sorry everyone...but I want to mention as well I noticed my urine is a little more bubbly.  It's not so bubbly that the bubbles stay there for hours on end, but bubble are appearing when I use the bathroom.  Also for the past 2 days I noticed my lower left calf was sore so I looked at it, and there is a small purplish bruise there...great.  I'm still scared that my blood tests have changed since the last time I had them taken - and that the levels dropped or became elevated to show something is wrong.  Although this purplish bruise I have noticed has been there for some time, even before this thing started.
