going back to work - nervous!
« on: February 26, 2013, 03:00:17 PM »
I've been off work sick for the last two days after a ferocious anxiety attack on friday and saturday.  I've been able to relax a bit, but I plan on returning to work tomorrow.  I'm going for my first therapy session in years this afternoon, which I hope will help a lot.

My latest anxiety has been triggered by stress both at work and at home, although fundamentally I am successful in my job and there are some good things in my home life to look forward to.  Still, I am pretty nervous at the thought of going back tomorrow, but I also know that there's a good chance it will be fine and help me recover.

I just wish it was easier!  Such a feeling of dread and while my mind knows that there are no big threats, my heart doesn't seem to feel it, and keeps pumping out the adrenaline.  But, I know that's the case, so I keep telling myself that my reaction is abnormal and the threat really isn't that bad.

Let's hope I can keep a lid on it and get back to work.  Much love to all you fellow sufferers out there..... :)

Good luck on your trip back to work! I hope it works out for you, even if you have to tell yourself to take it 15 minutes at a time.

Hey... well I'm still alive!  It was tough this morning and I was super nervous walking into work, but it wasn't too bad when I got there.  At one point in the morning when a potentiall stressful situation arose I had to go and hide out in the bathroom for 30mins and calm down, but after that I had quite a productive afternoon.

One day at a time!  Thanks for asking after me JLo. :)

Great to hear that you had some success going back to work!

It can be a daunting situation to try to experience but you did it. Good stuff.

Hi guys, thanks for the positive comments.  Today was tough again in the morning... getiing out of bed to face reality was particularly nerve-wracking, but once I got to work, I put some music on and got some coffee, things didn't seem quite so scary.  Made it through another day!

Yeah! Good job. I hope work continues to be a distraction and your anxiety is well managed at work. How is it at night? Is it only bad in the mornings?

Keep up the good work!

Hey JLo, yeah by the time I go to bed I usually feel almost normal again.  Then the horrible cycle starts again in the morning.  Things improved again overall today and I had another drama-free day at work.  So relieved to have made it through the week!

I have felt that work does make my anxiety better because I'm focusing on something else but it can be tough when i work at a hotel and deal with people all day sometimes it scares me. But I am the opposite I feel more anxiety at night, I've got past three days feeling anxiety free. Today was a little different I had to leave work a little early because I was starting to feel an attack coming on and the drive home was not easy. I took my medicine and feel a bit better but I wish I had an appetite. Well get through this together  ;D
