resting heart rate
« on: February 24, 2013, 06:54:23 PM »
Hi some worries again

I checked my resting hr today and it ranged from 57 to 61. Sometimes is 55 (When I first wake up) Other times it can be in the 70's. It mainly stays in the 55-61 range. I'm 18 and not a well trained athlete AT ALL. I don't even work out. I eat really un-healthy as well (If that info helps) Thanks again.

Well, I just Googled for you what a normal resting heart rate would be for a male of your age and it is completely in the normal range for someone who is not an athlete. Usually your poor eating and exercise habits will come back to haunt you later in life but right now your just 18. Don't get bogged down with this heart monitoring. You can't give too much importance to single numbers. Our heart rates fluctuate all of the time, from day to day and moment to moment. You can't over analyze it or you will be forever anxious about it.

My resting heart rate is always in the 90's. Sometimes it can be in the 100's. I've had every cardio test imaginable done to me and nothing is wrong. My cardiologist told me to not obsess with this. I'm just wired to have a faster heart rate. Its still within normal levels. Not everything needs fixing all of the time. Sometimes things just are as they are.

Unless directed to by your doctor, STOP checking your heart rate. Trust me.
