Hang in there, Nabila. Keep in mind: Doctors are VERY literal. When a doctor says, "I'm going to have you get a diagnostic mammo... I don't think there's anything wrong; I'm just being careful."  Your doctor means: "I really think you're fine." (and sometimes: "This is mostly to cover my 0104 insurance-wise.")

The vast, vast majority of lumps that are referred for diagnostic mammos turn out to be benign. (There are an array of benign things that grow in boobs all the time... especially in the boobs of women in their 30s & 40s.)

And let's look at the worst-case scenario: What if there was something worrisome in there?  Breast cancer isn't what it was even a decade ago. I personally know at least half a dozen women who got breast cancer, had treatment and went on to live normal lives.  I only know one woman who died from it, and she was a 95-year-old grandma who got breast cancer for a second time after having it back in the 1930s!

So don't worry. Your doctor doesn't think it's a problem... that means it's not going to be a problem.

Thank you so much to everyone who has offered kind words during this ordeal. I am suffering greatly (and needlessly, I know), but wouldn't be doing as well as I am without this discussion board.

Yes, Sassparella, my mammogram is Thursday at 3:00, so almost exactly 48 hours from now.

Well, tomorrow is finally the big day when the subject line of this post will once again be accurate. I am hoping everything will be ok tomorrow, and I am doing pretty well not worrying so much that I am incapacitated, I could just use some reassuring words and all the good vibes the universe will send my way. Thank you to everyone who has commented or looked at this post.

Not doing as well today. Feel like this day will forever be burned in my memory as the day I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It will all be over in six hours or so, but the dread is building. I am at work and trying to stay busy, but since I am posting on this site, clearly keeping busy is not sufficient.

Great. Now I am feeling nauseated. Any tips on what I can do to calm down?

I wish I had a great tip, but I suspect a Xanax is the only thing that would really help. Just remember that MANY of us have been in your shoes and felt exactly the same. We sweated it out until they came back with a verdict. Some of the women on this forum have received bad news, but all of those women are still alive to talk about it.  You'll be okay no matter what... hang in there!

Well, no cancer, no cyst, nothing. Radiologist isn't even sure what my doc felt because she couldn't feel anything at all. Neither could the technician. I just feel bad that while I received good news today, there are countless others who received the diagnosis today that I so feared. I feel for them.

(It's possible you just had your clinical exam during a tricky part of your cycle. I once made the mistake of going in for an exam  just before my period and even my doctor was freaked out by all the swollen tissue and cysts.  Now I always go right after my period... much less stressful.)
