conversion disorder. What do you think of this?
« on: February 11, 2013, 01:36:11 AM »
I wonder if any of us suffer from this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversion_disorder

I was thinking about some of my HA problems today and was reminded about a story that my high school psychology told the class.  He told the story of a woman named Anna O.  She was a patient who had what was called a hysterical pregnancy.  She unconsciously thought she was pregnant.  She had morning sickness, no periods, labor pains and all the signs of pregnancy, but she was not pregnant.  Her mind had convinced her that she was, so her body followed suit.
Google Anna O. sometime.  She had hysteria following her dad's death.  The physical symptoms that manifested were amazing.  It is a reminder of what stress and anxiety can do to our bodies.

yes I posted a story about conversion disorder that struck a group of girls in our area last year.

I had a friend who had a bout of it when she had a miscarriage.

everyone has some level of conversion disorder all of the time--be it just sweaty hands before a speech.  People around here have it too, to some degree.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
