Relief for aching teeth?
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:43:37 AM »
Recently my jaw grinding has been getting worse and my teeth are ridiculously achy right now. I went through a VERY tense situation for about 15 minutes earlier tonight and the aching started after that, so I'm not really worried about anything outrageous. I was just wondering if anyone here knew a solution or help for teeth aches and jaw grinding during the day. I didn't want to google "aching teeth relief" or something because I don't want to think I have some disease or cancer lol.

Do you have a mouthguard to wear at night?  That will help to ease your daytime problems, since it will take some of the pressure off your jaw (and your poor teeth)  while  you sleep.

As for daytime techniques, you have to be a bit vigilant about it. When I notice that I'm clenching my jaw, I open my mouth really wide (like a yawn) a few times and sometimes massage my jaw. Then I stick the tip of my tongue between my teeth (with my mouth closed) so I'm forced to keep the jaw relaxed.  It has helped - I definitely clench my jaw less these days.

I have had aching teeth before. I grind and clench my teeth all the time without realizing it but most of my teeth aching occurs from biting the skin around my finger nails. I have no finger prints anymore from years of biting and picking on my fingers. Since I constantly press my finger to my teeth, it does cause them to ache. Its an annoying and terrible feeling.

Only time makes the pain away but you can try drinking something warm or extra cold, depending in what works better.

I don't grind them at night, surprisingly. They're feeling a good bit better today but I can still "feel" them. I've done better about clenching today.
