horrible anxiety at work
« on: February 09, 2013, 07:41:51 PM »
I recently got a job at the vocational rehab where I live. Well it's not really a job but they help people with disabilities find jobs. I'm working there for the time being but I'm not employed there. I qualified because of my anxiety disorder. Anyway everyday when I go in and start working I immediately start having really bad anxiety and working is almost unbearable. Do you know how hard it is to work when you're anxious? It's almost impossible but I manage to get through my day anyway. I told my counselor that I wanted to quit on a couple of occasions but I didnt because I can use some extra money. I just hate feeling like crap everyday when I go in. My heart races, my mind won't shut up, shoulders tense.  I just dont know what I'm going to do. If I'm not able to handle this then how can I possibly handle a real job if they find me one? Anyway I just wanted somebody's advice on what I should do.

Hey there,
Do you take meds?  Are you in therapy of any sort, and do you have relaxation exercises?
If you are saying yes to all of the above...an obvious answer is to practice some of your breathing, relaxation techniques. As much as possible.
Another thought is, how long have you been doing this?  If only a few days etc... Give it more time.
Another thought is o take a bit more of your anti anxiety meds for a while when you o in to helpyou until you are more comfortable.

I understand as I stopped working last May due to anxiety issues.  I SO want to work and I'm looking for a job.  However there is not  a lot where I am right now.  However, I am trying to get out and do errands, the gym and a few social things to get back into the grove.  I do understand how you feel though.  Like when I am not having a good time at something, i think about how will I do a job when I finally find one. Howeve, I also think it would be better to keep pushing forward and work through as you go.
I also plan on taking a bit more of my anti-anxiety med at the beginning if I feel it will help keep me calmer until I feel a lot more comfortable.
Hope this helps?
Let me know what you think- how it goes..

Wow I am thrilled to know you got a job with the anxiety. I am having the worse time getting out to face an interview. My resume is all set but even hitting the submit button triggers the anxiety.

When your at work is the anxiety constant all day? They claim it takes 30 days to train our bodies to do something, so I am working on 30 days to train one new technique to relieve and control my anxiety events.

This month is breathing. I have terrible attacks at the grocery store. So I stand up really straight and push my shoulders back. This opens up my chest and I concentrate on the air going in and out of my nose and mouth. I do this until I am able to move on down the isle. The breathing does help my brain to focus and the nausea to subside a bit.

Hope this helps. Keep posting to let us know how your doing at work.
