vision...moving patterns
« on: February 06, 2013, 07:39:42 AM »
is anyone having a hard time looking at patterns. When i look at bold patterns, they seem to be moving. This is a new symptom and it's of course freaking me out. I've been to the eye doc several times and he says my eyes and vision is fine. Is this also my anxiety? It seems like with every new symptom, the loop starts all over again. but how do i know if this is anxiety? moving patterns scare me and i'm not sure if i'm just over fixating on my vision or if this is something I need to worry about. any experience with this? anxiety? or do i need to do more tests?

when living anxiously, yes, that is a common thing to happen.  it happens to me for sure.

I no longer question how anxiety manifests in a person

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

common anxiety symptoms... this is NOT an exhaustive list, btw....  not even sure this particular one is on that list....

Thank you for the replies..yes i get it mostly with stripes also! And it just seems that it's increasing over the past few days and then again, maybe i'm just too focused on my vision and making it happen. I need to find a distraction.

I've experienced that, too, when I'm really, really anxious.  They almost hurt my eyes.

Sixpack - thanks for posting the symptoms list again. I LOVE that list.

I get this a lot. Particularly when my anxiety and/or sinuses are acting up!

does anyone know if the 'moving or shimmering stripes' and sensitivity to light are connected to visual auras? because i get auras all the time (without a headache)  and striped bold patterns bother me mostly in my peripheral vision....or could it be related to my astigmatism...or again just anxiety  should i go to the eye doc again? the last time i asked him about the pattern thing, he told me its exhaustion. feeling insecure about this issue and its lingering...

I get this too! Sometimes worse, sometimes better, as with all my eye symptoms. :)

I have had ocular migraines (without a headache) with the shimmery rainbow thing that goes to the periphery of my vision. These have happened on and off for the past 15 years or so now, last ones were in 2008. I also get hypnopompic hallucinations where I wake up and see people, patterns, things. I have had flashers and floaters and a couple of times I had a black "blob" in the periphery of one eye and the doc said it is most likely due to bits of the aqueous humor inside the eye floating around and pieces coming off and getting stuck (lovely thing that happens as we age). I have had instances of seeing pinpricks of light here and there for days.

I also see patterns move but honestly I think that one may be perfectly normal because it's an optical illusion. I was just looking at some illusions online and if you look at a certain pattern it will always seem like it's moving. That's totally normal.

You can test it out yourself on a site such as this one: http://www.moillusions.com/

Some of the ones of patterns always look like they're moving. They're designed that way and it is just the way the brain and eye work together to interpret the data we're given.

I sympathise - my eyes are my biggest worry. But when you're feeling rational, REMIND yourself of the times when you don't notice your eyes rolling or twitching or vision blurring - then you can tell yourself next time you're freaking out that it does get better.

Easier said than done, I appreciate.
