Naturopathic Medicine and OCD/Anxiety - Work?
« on: February 04, 2013, 01:11:01 PM »
I have not had great success with my Zoloft or Lexipro and I went to a naturopathic doc last week and she wants me to whine off of my meds and try natural suppliments and ways to easy my anxiety...I am very open to this and want to try it, maybe it will work.

anyone ever had success with this type of doc? I would love to hear about it.

I am currently in the process of receiving naturopathic treatment (3 and a bit weeks in).

What is it they exactly suggest they would like to do? I would want them to be specific about what the condition is they are addressing rather than them saying 'for anxiety'. Is it adrenal fatigue, candida, leaky gut, nutrient deficiency, etc.? Ideally it would be encouraging if they looked to run some tests on you before launching off on treatment.

Having said that, from the research I have done and my current progress I would say that there is a lot of very promising and enticing stuff to be said for the naturopathic approach. I'd be careful in approaching it thinking 'this will make me feel great' - I'm not saying it won't, but often our problems are complicated and you may still need to address psychological issues as well as your physical issues. Having said that, I think there is an extremely significant amount of benefit that can be made from these can of approaches and it can certainly provide you a stable platform to put you on the road to mental and physical wellbeing.

Put it this way - in this world of pharmaceuticals, pesticides, chemicals, heavy metals, processed foods and constant stress, I don't think you can experience true wellbeing and health without first addressing your physical health.

Best of luck to you! Please drop me a PM at some point and let me know their personal reccomendations for you and how you are getting on :)

She put me on Min Chex suppliment (I have only been on it for a week) but i have heard good things. I have only had one appt with her and am going again this week. I will talk to my therapist about getting off lexapro...I honestly dont see that much of a difference with me being on it anyway. I never wanted to be on meds in the first place. I will update you when i know more after this week!

I think that if the prescription meds never worked, than I think the natural way may be the way to go.
I have been using natural cardiovascular supplements for years to lower lipid levels and they work fine and
my regular doctor concurs.
