Downward sprial this week :(
« on: February 04, 2013, 09:30:52 AM »
So, I had this chest/back/stomach pain and gas and all a while back. Was sure it was my gallbladder but my doctor insisted I needed a stress test (i'm a heart worrier). I had really dismissed it as much as I could and didn't think any more about it. Well, the office NEVER called with the stress test appointment and I honestly was proud, i had moved on and not worried.

THEN I get an email (I work from home) from my boss saying that one of the girls from the office had died. She was in her car to go to work and had a heart attack and died instantly. She wasn't much older than me.

This news has sent me downhill. I have had chest/back and leg pain for 2 days now. I can't concentrate. I have gas and bloating (which is where i've assumed my pain was coming from) This morning the pain was so bad I called my doctor to find out about the stress test. Was told by the referral nurse she never got an order for it but when she checked my chart it was there and she should have. So I ask if I can just go to a cardiologist instead and she says it will take 2-4 days to get the order from the doctor and set the appointment and she'll call me by friday. I'm totally freaking out. Had to call out of work today b/c I cannot focus!

Sorry about your co-worker.  It does sound like that's the cause of your anxiety - you know what it is and you can get through it.

I read about someone who died the other day and it threw me into a tailspin... of course you're feeling affected by what happened to your coworker.

Remember: Just because that happened to her, doesn't mean it will happen to you. In fact, since you have HA, you're less likely to ignore tell-tale signs that signal an oncoming heart attack.

Speaking of those signs, I don't think that's what you're feeling right now. It would be the biggest coincidence in the world if you were hit with heart attack symptoms just after hearing about your coworker. More likely it's anxiety, which is causing gas, bloating, fear and chest tightness.

It's a great idea to go in and get a stress test - it will put you at ease in the future. Until that happens, though, you need to find a way to relax. Watch some funny movies, cook something healthy and delicious, fix something in your house, go for a walk.  And if it makes you feel better, take a baby aspirin and do some breathing exercises... those will lower your chances of an attack straight away.

Thank you for the replies. I actually woke up feeling good, got  my son off to school and started thinking "oh i feel better" and when I thought that I started thinking about everything else and feel worse again :(

I am also moving and though it's a good change, all change throws me off :(

If i hear about someone dying it sets my HA into overdrive. Hopefully the stress test will come through soon and will be able to put your mind at rest. Also moving is a great stress too and I know what you mean about change I hate it too.
